    • Cleared to start Saturday
Flaherty (back) said he's feeling better after receiving a pain-killing injection Tuesday and has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Astros in Houston, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Flaherty was scheduled to play catch Wednesday and will throw a bullpen session Thursday, but unless the Tigers indicate that his back is still aching coming out of either of those activities, he shouldn't face any restrictions while he slots back into the rotation this weekend. The right-hander has delivered excellent returns on the Tigers' one-year, $14 million investment on him this offseason, as he'll head into Saturday's outing with a 3-4 record, 3.22 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 94:10 K:BB across 72.2 innings through his first 12 starts with Detroit. • Cruises to win over Rangers
Paxton (6-1) got the win over the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings.

Advice: Paxton's lone run against him came in the second inning on a sacrifice fly. He cruised the rest of the way from there, allowing just two more baserunners and did not allow another runner to get into scoring position. Tuesday was Paxton's first quality start since May 17 and his first win since May 11. His two hits allowed also tied his season low. The strikeout numbers have not been there for Paxton this season. He's topped four strikeouts just once this year and that came all the way back in his first start of the year. Still, he's been able to limit significant damage against him for the majority of the year and owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 35:32 K:BB in 59.2 innings. The 35-year-old southpaw lines up to complete a two-start week against the Royals on Sunday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:47 am

    • James Paxton holds Rangers to one run in win
James Paxton worked six innings and allowed only one run against the Rangers in a win Tuesday.

Advice: Even with six days’ rest after a pair of short starts, Paxton’s velocity was down some tonight, and he struck out just two. Still, the Rangers couldn’t capitalize, collecting only two hits before Paxton exited. Paxton remains a difficult guy to trust at the moment, and the Dodgers might look to stash him on the IL for a time after Bobby Miller returns. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:24 pm

    • Rocked by Yankees
Singer (4-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and a walk across 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Singer was in trouble from the start, allowing a triple to Anthony Volpe on just his second pitch of the day as part of a two-run first inning for the Yankees. Singer had more issues in the fourth, when Austin Wells launched a three-run home run to plate Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres to give New York a 6-0 lead. The 27-year-old's seven runs allowed marked a season high and he failed to complete six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts. He'll have another tough draw for his next start, with a road matchup with Dodgers set for Sunday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:08 pm

    • Singer allows six earned runs in loss to Yankees
Brady Singer allowed six earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out six in Tuesday’s loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Singer gave up two runs in the first inning, but it was a four-run fourth that caused most of the damage. Gleyber Torres singled in the fourth to drive in Alex Verdugo, but a three-run homer by Alex Wells on the ensuing at-bat put this one well out of reach. Singer has allowed five or more runs in just two of his 13 outings this season and will look to rebound in his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Dodgers. • Falls to Orioles
Fried (6-3) took the loss Tuesday against Baltimore, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Three of the runs charged to Fried came on a Jorge Mateo homer in the second inning. It was a tough night for the 30-year-old left-hander -- Fried had won three consecutive starts prior to Tuesday, allowing just three earned runs over 24 innings while striking out 28 in that span. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.20 on the year with a 1.06 WHIP and 70:24 K:BB across 13 starts (78.2 innings). Fried will look to bounce back in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week at home against the Tigers. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:18 pm

    • Max Fried turns in rare dud Tuesday vs. Orioles
Max Fried allowed four runs over five innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Orioles.

Advice: It wasn’t a total clunker, but it certainly qualifies as a rare dud for Fried, who was pitching on extra rest in this one and ended up allowing four earned runs for the first time since May 5. He was tagged for six hits, including a three-run homer by Jorge Mateo, and only finished with three strikeouts in an abbreviated outing. He’ll bring a solid 3.20 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 70/24 K/BB ratio across 78 2/3 innings (13 starts) into a favorable matchup on Sunday against the Rays. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:06 pm

    • Receives injection
Flaherty (back), who received an injection Monday and is scheduled to play catch Wednesday, is expected to start this weekend against the Astros if he remains free of setbacks, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old exited his start last Tuesday due to back tightness and originally lined up to make his next turn through the rotation Tuesday versus Washington, but his spot has been pushed back a few days. Flaherty's throwing session Wednesday should provide some clarity for his availability this weekend. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:54 pm

    • Jack Flaherty to start this weekend vs. Astros
Jack Flaherty (back) received an anti-inflammatory injection on Monday.

Advice: Flaherty has already been ruled out from making his next start on Tuesday night against the Nationals, but remains on track to take the ball to take the ball at some point this weekend against the Astros. Barring an unexpected setback, it appears likely he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list. The 28-year-old righty has seemingly put it all together this season in his Tigers debut, returning to form as one of the premier fantasy starters in the game. It’s an encouraging update that he’s still on track to take the ball this week. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:26 pm
