      Manager Rob Thomson said Turnbull will start Tuesday's game against the Angels, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

      Advice: At least to begin the upcoming week, the Phillies will keep a six-man rotation in place following the return of Taijuan Walker from the injured list Sunday. In order to keep Turnbull in the fold in a starting role, the Phillies will move Zack Wheeler's next start to Wednesday and Aaron Nola's to Friday. Thomson said that he wanted to give Wheeler and Nola some extra rest ahead of their next starts, adding that he's not inclined to go with a six-man rotation moving forward. However, keeping a six-man rotation in place for this week will buy Thomson one more opportunity to evaluate Turnbull and Walker, with how either pitcher performs in their upcoming start perhaps determining which of the two sticks around as part of a five-man rotation. Turnbull has dazzled thus far with a 1.33 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB in 27 innings through five starts, but the Phillies are conscious of monitoring his workload after he missed the 2022 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery before tossing just 57 total innings between the majors and minors in 2023 while missing time with a neck injury.       Jose Alvarado slammed the door on the Padres in the ninth inning on Sunday, retiring all three batters that he faced to protect a two-run advantage.

      Advice: Alvarado came out guns blazing in this one, striking out Eguy Rosario and Luis Campusano before getting Jurickson Profar on a line drive to right field to end it. The 28-year-old left-hander has struggled a bit to start the season — sporting a 5.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 12/7 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings, but he has converted all five of his save chances and remains the Phillies’ go-to option in the ninth inning.       Nolan Arenado finished 0-for-5 in the loss to the Mets on Sunday, snapping a 25-game on-base streak.

      Advice: Arenado struck out once and failed to hit a ball hard in his other four attempts. Up with one out and a man on third in the top of the 11th, he hit a 200-foot fly that turned into a double play because Willson Contreras forgot how many outs there were. Arenado has just one homer this year. His hard-hit rate is only 27%. He’s doing what he can with a .271 average and a .328 OBP, but the power just isn’t there right now. Soler's power is at an acceptable level (five homers, .414 slugging percentage) through 28 games, but he's batting just .222 with a .736 OPS, well under his .250 average and .853 OPS from last season.
