Skubal generated a whopping 36 called or swinging strikes among his 93 pitches as he produced his eighth quality start of the season, and he'll take a dazzling 2.01 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 80:11 K:BB through 67 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Rangers.     • Kyle Schwarber orders combo meal in Phillies’ win
      Kyle Schwarber walloped a leadoff homer and also stole a base on Wednesday, propelling the Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the Giants.

      Advice: Schwarber delivered a tone-setting blast to left-center field right out of the gate against Giants starter Kyle Harrison before reaching on a fielder’s choice and stealing second base a couple frames later. The 31-year-old slugger also added an RBI single in the eighth inning as well to put the cherry on top of a multi-hit performance at Oracle Park, which is one of the toughest ballparks in the league for left-handed batters.     • Tarik Skubal fans eight, combines on shutout
      Tarik Skubal pitched three-hit ball and struck out eight over seven innings Wednesday as the Tigers shut out the Pirates 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

      Advice: Skubal followed up his worst start of the year against the Royals with one of his best today. He’s now 7-1 with a 2.01 ERA and an 80/11 K/BB ratio over 67 innings.     • Report: Blue Jays have interest in Ryan McMahon
      According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Rockies are unlikely to move Ryan McMahon this summer, though the Blue Jays and other clubs have interest in him.

      Advice: McMahon has busted out or at least enjoyed an extended hot streak this season, coming in at .286/.366/.483 to date. That’s a 135 OPS+ from a guy who has never before topped 100 in a season. Still, the Rockies, who have McMahon signed through 2027, have never heard of the concept of selling high.       Robert (hip) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's rehab appearance with Triple-A Charlotte.

      Advice: Tuesday was Robert's first game with Charlotte after he spent the previous five days with the team's rookie-level Arizona Complex League club.       Freeman went 5-for-8 with a walk, a double, a home run and three RBI across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets.

      Advice: The first baseman reached base three times in each contest, but most of his production came in the matinee, including a two-run shot off Jorge Lopez in the 10th inning.       Pillar went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Pillar has hit safely in his last 11 games, going 20-for-41 (.488) in that span. He's logged a trio of three-hit efforts during the streak. The outfielder is up to a .349/.402/.639 slash line with six homers, 24 RBI, 14 runs scored, six stolen bases, four doubles and a triple over 34 contests this season.       Kevin Pillar went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Tuesday in leading the Angels to a 4-3 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: The White Sox releasing Pillar after a 4-for-25 start, only to watch him hit .431/.459/.759 with five homers in his first 17 games for the Angels, is undeniably the funniest thing to happen in 2024. There’s no reason to expect Pillar to keep this up — and we still wouldn’t recommend him in mixed leagues — but it’d be hilarious if he somehow pulled off a career year at age 35.       Fry went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a stolen base and three total runs scored in Tuesday's 13-7 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: Fry has a pair of three-hits games over his last nine contests, going 13-for-26 (.500) with four homers, three steals and 11 RBI in that span. The utility man is on another level lately, though he's been strong throughout the campaign with a .357/.492/.622 slash line, seven homers, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and four steals over 128 plate appearances. He's started three straight games in left field, but that avenue into the lineup will close when Steven Kwan (hamstring) returns from the injured list.
