    • Starts rehab assignment
Soler (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Advice: Soler had a freak accident Tuesday when he was hit in the head by a ball while taking batting practice, but he came out of it no worse for wear and was cleared for a rehab assignment. The slugger is coming back from a right shoulder strain and should be activated by the Giants in the coming days. Rotowire.com Today, 7:09 am

    • Exits game with bruised knee
Santander was removed from Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays due to a bruised knee, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. He went 2-for-4 with a double.

Advice: Santander banged up his knee when he collided with the outfield wall and then aggravated it on a double and a slide in the eighth inning before being lifted in the ninth. The injury doesn't sound like a big concern, and it's possible the Orioles' scheduled off day Thursday will be enough rest for Santander. Consider him day-to-day heading into this weekend's series versus the Mariners. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:12 pm
    • Anthony Santander leaves game with bruised knee
Anthony Santander was pulled from Wednesday’s contest against the Blue Jays due to a bruised knee.

Advice: Santander initially suffered the injury when he crashed into the outfield wall in the third inning on Wednesday. He then aggravated if further while sliding into second base during the eighth inning. It doesn’t sound like it’s anything that should require a trip to the injured list, but there’s a chance that the 29-year-old slugger will be held out of the lineup an extra day or two to be on the safe side. • Getting day off Wednesday
Carroll is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Carroll looked like he might be righting the ship earlier this month, but he's since fallen back into a 3-for-28 slump over his last seven contests. Jake McCarthy will patrol center field Wednesday while Carroll regroups. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 am

    • Fine after freak accident
Soler (shoulder/head) didn't suffer any significant injuries after getting hit in the head while hitting on the field Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Soler took swings on the field before Tuesday's game against the Dodgers as the next step in rehabbing his strained right shoulder, but he was removed by a trainer after a foul ball hit off the top of the cage and struck him in the head. However, it appears the outfielder managed to escape the incident with minimal damage. He will be eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday, though there is no telling whether or not he'll be ready to play then. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:56 pm

    • Hit in head during BP
Soler (shoulder) hit on the field Tuesday but walked off with a trainer after suffering an apparent injury, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Tuesday marked the first time Soler has hit off the field since landing on the IL, but his session came to an abrupt end when he fouled off a ball that ricocheted off the top of the cage and hit him in the head. It's unclear how severe the damage is, but the 32-year-old was at least shaken up enough for him to be shut down for the day. The Giants will take a closer look at him and may offer more information on his status in the near future. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 4:55 pm

    • Jorge Soler leaves BP on Tuesday with trainer
Jorge Soler (shoulder) left batting practice on Tuesday with a trainer.

Advice: It’s not what you want to see. Soler was hitting on the field at Oracle Park for the first time since landing on the injured list last week with a right shoulder strain when he fouled a ball off the top of the cage that ricochetted back and struck him in the head. • On bench Tuesday
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: The left-handed Carpenter will avoid a matchup with southpaw Ryan Weathers on Tuesday, as Wenceel Perez, Matt Vierling and Mark Canha will start across the outfield. Carpenter has hit safely in five straight games, batting 7-for-18 (.389) with two homers and five runs scored. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:05 pm

    • Corbin Carroll has two hits against Orioles
Corbin Carroll went 2-for-5 with a double in a 9-2 win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Advice: The effort put Carroll over the Mendoza Line on the season, as the 23-year-old is now hitting .201/.287/.266. Perhaps more encouraging, both of Carroll’s hits left the bat at over 100 mph. There are still real concerns about his ability to lift and drive the ball, and his home run projections all feel a bit high, but it’s nice to see him making authoritative contact.
