    • Reynaldo López (back) likely to make next start
      Reynaldo López tossed five scoreless innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

      Advice: López certainly would’ve gone deeper into the contest, but he was lifted for precautionary reasons following just 71 pitches (50 strikes) after his back tightened up on him. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern with Braves manager Brian Snitker telling reporters afterwards that he doesn’t expect him to miss his next start. The 30-year-old righty will bring a stellar 1.34 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 40/16 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Padres.     • Exits with tight back
      Lopez was lifted from Monday's start against the Cubs early due to back tightness, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. He didn't factor into the decision after allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings.

      Advice: Lopez was removed from the game firing 71 pitches, and he likely would've gone back out for the sixth had his back not become an issue. He'll be considered day-to-day leading up to his next outing, but the club expects him to be ready for his next start, per Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.     • Corbin Burnes hurls six frames in no-decision
      Corbin Burnes allowed one run over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Burnes notched only two strikeouts and also issued a pair of walks. He generated only seven swinging strikes and finished with a pedestrian 29 percent CSW. It was his lowest single-start strikeout total of his Orioles debut, but he extended his streak of allowing three earned runs or fewer to an impressive nine consecutive outings. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.68 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 49/14 K/BB ratio across 53 2/3 innings (nine starts) into a home matchup on Sunday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Monday, 7:07 pm
       
    • Continues to receive little support
      Burnes did not factor into the decision Monday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Burnes did not allow an extra-base hit as a walk and two singles in the sixth led to the lone run he allowed. The two strikeouts are the fewest Burnes has recorded in a start during his career and represent the eighth consecutive start in which he's recorded six or fewer K's after opening the season with an 11-strikeout effort. While he's not been as dominant in Baltimore as he was in Milwaukee, Burnes has still been plenty effective, allowing three or fewer runs in every start this season.       Senga (shoulder) won't face hitters again until he works through some mechanical issues, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: The right-hander threw 32 pitches in a live bullpen session last weekend, but he apparently wasn't satisfied with how it went. Senga will take a step back in his throwing program and go back to more controlled bullpen sessions without hitters involved until he's sure he won't be developing any bad habits as he progresses in his rehab from a shoulder strain. While the caution is smart in the long run, the hiccup will almost certainly ensure that Senga won't be ready to join the Mets rotation when he's first eligible to come off the 60-day injured list in late May.     • Electric versus Blue Jays
      Ober (4-1) earned the win after he pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out 10 batters in Sunday's 5-1 victory over Toronto.

      Advice: Ober was nearly perfect Sunday, allowing just a single to Vladimir Guerrero in the bottom of the fourth inning, while his 10 punchouts were a season high. The right-hander has now recorded four quality starts over eight outings this season. Since allowing eight runs against the Royals in his season debut, Ober has produced a 2.16 ERA with 44 strikeouts over 41.2 innings in his last seven starts.       Bailey Ober pitched one-hit ball for 6 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out 10 as the Twins defeated the Blue Jays 5-1 on Sunday.

      Advice: It’s his second career 10-strikeout game, with the other coming against the White Sox in Sept. 2022. Ober opened this season with the very worst outing of his career, but since that eight-run barrage, he has a 2.16 ERA and a 44/7 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings.     • Can't keep ball in park Saturday
      Steele escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates, surrendering six runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Making just his third start of the season after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, Steele served up homers to Connor Joe and Oneil Cruz in the third inning and Michael Taylor in the fourth, but he got taken off the hook for the loss thanks to a seven-run fifth by the Cubs. Steele has yet to complete five innings in an outing and threw just 74 pitches (53 strikes) Saturday, but he should begin to get stretched out more as he puts the injury further behind him. Steele will take a 4.73 ERA and 11:4 K:BB through 13.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to be a rematch with the Pirates back in Wrigley Field next week.       Justin Steele didn’t factor into the decision Saturday while allowing six runs over four innings against the Pirates.

      Advice: Steele’s start was officially cut short because of a long rain delay, but it’s unlikely he was going to continue based on how well — or more accurately, not well — he was throwing. The southpaw allowed six hits and three walks with three strikeouts, and he allowed a Pittsburgh lineup that had been awful as of late to break through. These things happen.
