    • Earns ugly win
Lopez (2-2) allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in five innings Sunday, striking out eight and picking up a win over the Angels.

Advice: Lopez tossed four shutout frames before the Angels caught fire in the fifth inning, plating four runs. Three of those runs came via back-to-back homers by Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel. Lopez forced 13 whiffs after totaling just five in his last outing against the White Sox. Still, he saw his ERA climb to 4.83 through six starts. Lopez is currently in line for a home matchup with Boston next weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:47 pm
    • Pablo López defeats Angels to improve to 2-2
Pablo López picked up his second victory of the 2024 season on Sunday, limiting the Angels to four runs on four hits over his five innings of work.

Advice: López punched out eight batters on the afternoon while allowing only one base on balls. He kept the Angels off the board completely through the first four innings, but they saddled him with four runs in the fifth — courtesy of home runs from Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel. López generated 13 swings and misses on 87 pitches in the contest, posting a strong CSW of 29 percent. He now holds a 4.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 31 2/3 innings through his first six starts on the season. He’ll do battle against the Red Sox his next time out at home on Saturday. • Rehab assignment approaching
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Steele (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Counsell didn't say how many starts the Cubs want Steele to make in the minors, but the 28-year-old southpaw is likely in for multiple rehab outings after sitting out roughly a month due to a strained left hamstring. Assuming his assignment goes smoothly, Steele will likely return to Chicago's rotation toward the middle of May. Rotowire.com Saturday, 12:17 pm

    • Justin Steele set to make rehab start this week
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Justin Steele (hamstring) will make a minor league rehab start this week.

Advice: Steele continues to progress towards rejoining Chicago’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back in late March with a left hamstring strain. The 28-year-old southpaw should be ready to return in early-to-mid May. Rotoworld Saturday, 11:55 am

    • Kodai Senga (shoulder) to face hitters next week
Kodai Senga (shoulder) is scheduled to face hitters on Monday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: Senga remains unlikely to make his season debut until late May, at the earliest, but this latest development represents a massive step forward in his rehabilitation process from a shoulder injury that sent him to the injured list back in spring training. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:42 am

    • Notches second win
Ober (2-1) allowed two runs on three hits and three walks over 7.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Angels.

Advice: Ober fired five shutout frames before the Angels broke through with a run in the sixth inning. After he was throttled for eight runs in his season debut, the 28-year-old righty has given up just four runs over his last four starts, dropping his ERA down to 4.21. He's also posted an impressive 24:6 K:BB through 24.1 frames over his last four outings. Ober is currently in line for a road matchup with the White Sox next week, in which he has a good chance of continuing to roll. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:59 pm

    • Bailey Ober pitches into eighth in win over Angels
Bailey Ober went 7 2/3 innings while allowing two runs with eight strikeouts to get a win Friday over the Angels.

Advice: Ober gave up just three hits, but did walk three while throwing 63-of-96 pitches for strikes. The right-hander breezed through the first five innings without allowing a run, and while he did allow a run in the sixth and eighth, it’s obviously a strong outing for the 28-year-old. Ober has been strong in his last few outings, but his 4.21 ERA is being held hostage but the nine runs he allowed to Kansas City in the first start of the year. Ober is a must-start next week against the White Sox. Rotoworld Friday, 9:43 pm

    • Corbin Burnes holds A’s to one run in no-decision
Corbin Burnes wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing one run over six innings Friday against the Orioles.

Advice: Burnes outdueled Ross Stripling and left with a one-run lead, but the A’s let Stripling off the hook for once by scoring a run in the ninth and then winning the game in 10. Baltimore had been 5-0 with Burnes on the mound. The right-hander has a 2.55 ERA and a 32/8 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 8:33 pm

    • Quality start in no-decision
Burnes did not factor into the decision Friday against Oakland, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Burnes was solid Friday, holding the A's to a Shea Langeliers solo homer in the first inning. He'd depart with a one-run lead, though Oakland would tie the game off Craig Kimbrel in the ninth before beating the Orioles in extras, leaving Burnes with a no-decision. It's the first quality start in three outings for the 29-year-old right-hander as Burnes failed to make it through six innings in his previous two starts. Overall, he's 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB through six starts (35.1 innings) this season. Burnes is currently lined up for a home matchup with the Yankees next week.
