Matt Vierling launches walkoff homer for Tigers
Matt Vierling went 4-for-6 with two homers, including a game-winning three-run shot in the bottom of the ninth, as the Tigers topped the Blue Jays 14-11 in a wild one Sunday.
Advice: The Tigers led 5-0 after three and 8-3 after five, only to fall behind 11-9 in the top of the eighth. Still, they obviously weren’t done on a day in which seven homers were hit. Mark Canha tied the game with a single in the bottom of the eighth, and Vierling homered off Jordan Romano after Kerry Carpenter was intentionally walked in the ninth. Vierling previously homered in the sixth inning, and he now has five homers to go along with a .278/.311/.464 line on the season. Vierling has been doing some sitting against righties since Gio Urshela returned, but he deserves something close to a full-time role right now. He’s actually hitting righties a little better than lefties (.789 OPS to .750).
