    • LIfted in ninth inning again
      Kimbrel was pulled in the ninth frame of Wednesday's game against the Nationals and was charged with two runs on two walks and a hit over two-thirds of an inning, though he was credited with a hold.

      Advice: Kimbrel was called upon to protect a two-run ninth-inning lead and initially appeared set to do so with little trouble, as he retired the first two batters he faced. However, Eddie Rosario then tagged the veteran closer for a solo home run, and Kimbrel followed with two straight walks before he was given the hook. Keegan Akin allowed one of the inherited runners to score, thus sending the game into extra frames. Though Kimbrel was credited with a hold, he was pulled in a save situation in the ninth inning for his second straight outing, so his hold on the closer role for Baltimore could be getting tenuous. Over his past five contests, Kimbrel has blown two saves in addition to being pulled from a save situation on two occasions, and he's allowed six earned runs while posting a 4:7 K:BB across 2.1 innings during that stretch.       Craig Kimbrel suffered his third blown save of the season on Wednesday night, giving up two runs on a hit and two walks while recording just two outs.

      Advice: The 35-year-old right-hander has not pitched well since dealing with back soreness, and perhaps the Orioles want to consider a stint on the injured list to sit him down and get him right. Kimbrel came on with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning of this one and got the first two hitters in order, but then served up a solo homer to Eddie Rosario and then walked a pair of batters before turning the ball over to Keegan Akin who allowed a game-tying RBI single to CJ Abrams.       Nick Pivetta allowed five earned runs in four innings in his first start back from an elbow injury and took the loss against the Braves on Wednesday.

      Advice: Pivetta wasn’t particularly sharp in his return to the mound as he allowed seven hits, including three home runs, and only recorded one strikeout. He gets a bit of a pass given the circumstances and tough matchup against the Braves on the road. Pivetta only threw 58 pitches, which is a potential concern for his next start.       Red Sox activated RHP Nick Pivetta from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: As anticipated, the 31-year-old hurler will rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation on Wednesday night against the Braves. Prior to landing on the injured list, Pivetta had posted a 1-1 record, 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and a 13/1 K/BB ratio over 11 innings through his first two starts. Given the fact that he threw just 62 pitches in his last rehab start — and the tough matchup against the Braves — fantasy managers may want to wait and see on this one before re-inserting him into lineups.       Advice: Pivetta will rejoin the Red Sox's rotation Wednesday in Atlanta. The right-hander has been sidelined since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain but was cleared to return after making one rehab start. He went just three innings and threw only 62 pitches in his lone rehab outing last Thursday, so Pivetta probably won't be asked to handle a full workload in his return to the big-league rotation.     • Report: Tanner Scott could be next Marlin traded
      According to Buster Olney, sources told him that Tanner Scott is “the guy on their roster you’d look at” but Josh Bell could also interest teams as well.

      Advice: After the Marlins traded Luis Arraez this weekend, assuming a firesale would follow was only logical. Scott was electric as the closer for the Marlins last year, but has seen some control issues resurface this season. He has a 2.77 ERA and four saves, but he also has 14 walks in 13 innings. If he were to be traded, he would likely serve as a setup man, and the Marlins could turn back to A.J. Puk in the closer’s role which means Puk could be worth a speculative add in leagues.       Advice: That’s a tough return, but it’s also welcome news for fantasy managers who are waiting for Pivetta to come off the shelf. The right-hander was able to throw 62 pitches in his rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Worcester, so he should be stretched out for five-plus innings in that outing.       Advice: Cora stopped short of confirming Pivetta for Wednesday, as the right-hander presumably needs to check out fine following a bullpen session Sunday or Monday before the Red Sox formally clear him to rejoin the rotation. Pivetta, who has been on the shelf since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain, made a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday and gave up four earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five across three innings. Despite the less-than-stellar results, the Red Sox were apparently encouraged by how Pivetta felt physically in the outing and are eager to bring him back into the big-league rotation this week.       King (3-3) earned the win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing six hits over six shutout innings while striking out three.

      Advice: King surrendered hits to three of the first four batters he faced in the contest but was able to work his way out of it before retiring the next 11 batters in succession. The right-hander didn't issue a walk for the first time this season, though his three strikeouts on the night also marked a season low. King had allowed at least four runs in back-to-back starts coming in and in three of his last four overall, taking three consecutive losses over that stretch.
