    • Hit hard in return
Pivetta (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one over four innings.

Advice: Pivetta got off to a rough start, allowing back-to-back home runs with two outs in the first inning to put the Red Sox in an early 4-0 hole. The right-hander would allow another long ball in the third, the second homer from Marcell Ozuna on the night, and would make it through only four frames while surrendering a season-high five runs. The seven hits and three home runs allowed also marked season highs for the veteran. He'll look to get back on track next week when Boston takes on the Rays at home. • Pivetta rocked in return from elbow injury
Nick Pivetta allowed five earned runs in four innings in his first start back from an elbow injury and took the loss against the Braves on Wednesday.

Advice: Pivetta wasn’t particularly sharp in his return to the mound as he allowed seven hits, including three home runs, and only recorded one strikeout. He gets a bit of a pass given the circumstances and tough matchup against the Braves on the road. Pivetta only threw 58 pitches, which is a potential concern for his next start. He’s set to face the Tampa Bay Rays in Boston next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:56 pm

    • Red Sox activate Nick Pivetta from 15-day IL
Red Sox activated RHP Nick Pivetta from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: As anticipated, the 31-year-old hurler will rejoin the Red Sox’ rotation on Wednesday night against the Braves. Prior to landing on the injured list, Pivetta had posted a 1-1 record, 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and a 13/1 K/BB ratio over 11 innings through his first two starts. Given the fact that he threw just 62 pitches in his last rehab start — and the tough matchup against the Braves — fantasy managers may want to wait and see on this one before re-inserting him into lineups. • Activated prior to start
The Red Sox activated Pivetta (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Pivetta will rejoin the Red Sox's rotation Wednesday in Atlanta. The right-hander has been sidelined since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain but was cleared to return after making one rehab start. He went just three innings and threw only 62 pitches in his lone rehab outing last Thursday, so Pivetta probably won't be asked to handle a full workload in his return to the big-league rotation. • Season debut coming soon
Woo (elbow) is expected to rejoin the Mariners' rotation during their upcoming homestand, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Manager Scott Servais wasn't ready to give an exact date for Woo's return but noted that it will be a day which would allow for an extra day of rest for the team's other starters. That would seem to point to Woo starting Friday against the Athletics, but the exact plans should be revealed soon. Emerson Hancock will be optioned to Triple-A Tacoma when Woo returns. • Bryan Woo could be activated this weekend
The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude suggests that Bryan Woo (elbow) could be activated form the IL this weekend to face the Athletics.

Advice: Woo was impressive in his last start at Triple-A, throwing 66 pitches while averaging 95.7 mph on his fastball. He now has a 17-to-0 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 11 1/3 scoreless innings across his three rehab appearances with Tacoma, while allowing just five hits. However, Jude notes that “the team wants to see how Woo feels over the next couple of days before finalizing plans to activate him.” With Emerson Hancock set to make his start against the Twins on Tuesday, his turn in the rotation would come up again this weekend against Oakland, and Woo could be activated to take his place. He certainly looks ready and Jude confirms that, “The club does not plan to go with a six-man rotation and would prefer to keep Hancock stretched out in Triple-A, as opposed to keep him in the majors to pitch out of the bullpen.” Rotoworld Monday, 12:04 pm

    • Dominates with 12 Ks
Skubal did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings against the Yankees. He struck out 12.

Advice: Skubal continues to dominate, as the 12 strikeouts were a season high and marked the first double-digit strikeout effort of the campaign for the ace lefty. It was the sixth time in seven games Skubal has allowed two or fewer earned runs, as the outing raised his ERA to 1.90 with a 0.77 WHIP and 53 strikeouts over 42.2 innings. He's tentatively lined up to toe the rubber next weekend when the Astros come to Detroit for a three-game set. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:12 pm
    • Tarik Skubal strikes out 12 in no-decision
Tarik Skubal pitched well in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday afternoon, piling up 12 strikeouts over six innings of two-run baseball.

Advice: The hard-throwing southpaw allowed six hits on the day and didn’t allow a base on balls. All of the damage done against him came in the first two innings, as Aaron Judge crushed a solo homer in the first and Oswaldo Cabrera added an RBI double in the second. Skubal generated 18 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the day — a whopping 12 of those on his changeup — while posting a ridiculous CSW of 44 percent. Skubal will carry a stellar 1.90 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and a 53/6 K/BB ratio (42 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Astros. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:05 pm
    • Nick Pivetta (elbow) expected to start Wednesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that Nick Pivetta (elbow) is expected to come off the injured list to start Wednesday against Atlanta.

Advice: That’s a tough return, but it’s also welcome news for fantasy managers who are waiting for Pivetta to come off the shelf. The right-hander was able to throw 62 pitches in his rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Worcester, so he should be stretched out for five-plus innings in that outing. Rotoworld Sunday, 12:00 pm
