    • Impressive in return to closer role
      Kimbrel pitched a clean ninth inning, striking out two to pick up a save Sunday against the Mariners.

      Advice: It appears Kimbrel has found his groove again, and he was rewarded with a save opportunity while posting his fourth consecutive appearance without allowing a hit or a walk. It was the first save since May 3 for Kimbrel, who had posted a 16.20 ERA and 4.50 WHIP over 3.1 innings in the six outings prior to this most recent four-game stretch.     • Efficient in earning second win
      Pivetta (2-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on one hit over six innings against the Cardinals. He struck out eight.

      Advice: A fourth-inning solo homer by Lars Nootbaar was the only blemish against Pivetta, who needed just 72 pitches to retire 18 of the 19 batters he faced. It was the second consecutive start for Pivetta with eight punchouts, as he's struck out 16 over 11.2 innings while allowing only three runs during that stretch. However, it should be noted that all three runs were scored by way of the long ball, and Pivetta has now allowed six homers, including five of the solo variety, over his last three appearances. Pivetta will look to carry the momentum into his next start, tentatively slated to take place next weekend when the Red Sox welcome the Brewers into Fenway for a three-game set.     • Craig Kimbrel perfect in return to closer’s role
      Getting a chance to close for the first time since May 8, Craig Kimbrel struck out two in a perfect ninth Sunday against the Mariners.

      Advice: This was truly easing him back into the closer’s role; not only did he have a three-run lead, but he was getting the bottom third of the Mariners lineup. Kimbrel has allowed just one batter to reach in four scoreless innings since his May 8 outing knocked him out of the closer’s role for a spell.     • Nick Pivetta fans eight in defeating Cardinals
      Nick Pivetta limited the Cardinals to one run and one hit over six innings in Boston’s 11-3 win Sunday.

      Advice: The one hit was a 441-foot homer from Lars Nootbaar, but Pivetta retired every other batter he faced, striking out eight of them. He struggled in his first start back from the IL, but he has a 3.04 ERA and a 30/2 K/BB ratio through five outings this year. He’ll get the Brewers next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:28 pm
       
    • Skubal allows one hit over six to improve to 6-0
      Tarik Skubal allowed one hit in six scoreless frames to help the Tigers to a 13-0 drubbing of the Diamondbacks on Friday.

      Advice: Skubal didn’t issue a walk and struck out six while improving to 6-0 on the season. The southpaw has had no issue carrying over the dominant finish to his 2023 campaign, and this strong outing lowered his ERA to 1.80 with a remarkable 66/8 K/BB.     • Six shutout innings for sixth win
      Skubal (6-0) allowed just one hit and struck out six over six shutout innings to earn the win Friday over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: The Tigers' offense was explosive Friday, but Skubal was excellent in his own right in his best outing of the campaign. This was his sixth straight quality start, as well as the fourth time he's avoided walking a batter this season. The southpaw is now at a 1.80 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 66:8 K:BB through 55 innings over nine starts. He's projected to make his next start at Kansas City. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:12 pm
       
    • Sharp in first win
      Woo (1-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: The right-hander pounded the zone, firing 60 of his 79 pitches for strikes, but after five scoreless innings Woo ran out of gas in the sixth and left the mound with runners on the corners and one out, clinging to a 2-1 lead. Gabe Speier was able to escape the jam, however, and the Seattle bullpen took care of the rest. Woo has been impressive in two starts since making his belated season debut, giving up just one run in 9.2 innings with an 8:2 K:BB, but he faces a tough test in his next outing -- a road start at Yankee Stadium early next week.       King (3-4) took the loss against the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven betters over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: King fell behind when he yielded three runs in the second inning, and San Diego's offense never put up a fight against Austin Gomber and a trio of Rockies relievers. King had been on a roll coming into Wednesday, putting up 13 scoreless frames over his previous two starts, but he's been very inconsistent this season, giving up at least four runs in four of his 10 appearances. Altogether, he's registered a mediocre 4.31 ERA and 1.36 WHIP along with a 61:26 K:BB through 54.1 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:15 pm

    • Bryan Woo fans five in victory over Royals
      Bryan Woo was terrific in Wednesday’s victory over the Royals, striking out five batters over 5 1/3 innings of one-run baseball.

      Advice: The 24-year-old right-hander scattered just three hits and one walk on the afternoon. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. in the sixth inning. Woo generated 13 swings and misses on 79 pitches on the afternoon — eight of those on his heater which averaged 95.1 mph — while posting a CSW of 29 percent.
