• Trevor Megill (elbow) returns to action Saturday
Trevor Megill (elbow) returned to action on Saturday and looked no worse for the wear, striking out all three batters that he faced in a scoreless inning against the White Sox.

Advice: It wasn’t a save chance, as it was the seventh inning of a game where the Brewers trailed 3-1, but it was nice to see Megill look as dominant as ever after taking a scary line drive off of his arm during Monday’s game. He needed just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to dispatch of Zach Remillard, Tommy Pham and Korey Lee in order. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

  • Luis Ortiz snags first career save on Saturday
Luis Ortiz picked up the first save of his big league career on Saturday, working three scoreless innings to close out the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ortiz came on in the seventh with the Pirates holding a comfortable 6-1 lead, and all he had to do was steer the ship home. He allowed just one hit over his three scoreless frames while striking out three batters along the way. He’s not going to suddenly challenge David Bednar for save chances, but it’s probably a nice confidence boost for him to be able to close one out. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Seeking second opinion
Middleton (forearm) will get a second opinion from a specialist Monday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Middleton underwent an MRI on Friday after being checked out by team doctors and it appears he may be dealing with a significant injury to his throwing arm. Season-ending surgery has yet to be ruled out, though even if he avoids surgery, Middleton could have to start over after being close to returning from the 15-day IL just days before reporting the injury. Regardless, there should be more clarity regarding Middleton's status in the coming days. Rotowire.com Today, 2:24 pm
  • Out through All-Star break
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Merryweather (ribs) will not return until after the All-Star break, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Merryweather has been on the IL since early April due to a rib stress fracture in his back. He's only a couple weeks into his throwing program, but the Cubs have already determined that it will take at least another month-and-a-half to get the 32-year-old reliever ready for game action. As Merryweather continues to check off boxes in his rehab process, a more exact return date should emerge. Rotowire.com Today, 2:19 pm
  • Could start rehab stint this week
Matz (back) will throw a full-intensity bullpen Monday and could get sent on a minor-league rehab assignment if the bullpen session goes well, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Monday's bullpen session will be Matz's third since he hit the IL with a back injury. The southpaw has missed a full month of action and would likely need a couple of rehab starts before returning to the Cardinals' active roster. In the meantime, Andre Pallante is set to fill Matz's spot in the rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 2:12 pm

  • Called up Saturday
Snider was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.

Advice: Snider will return to the major-league bullpen for the first time since April 8, replacing Gabe Speier (shoulder) on the 26-man roster after Speier was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Snider has appeared in three games with Seattle in 2024, surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings. Rotowire.com Today, 1:51 pm
  • Placed on 15-day IL
Speier was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left rotator cuff strain Saturday, retroactive to May 30, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Speier last appeared in a game May 29, allowing one hit while striking out a batter over two-thirds of an inning against the Astros. He'll now be forced to miss at least two weeks, but considering it's his throwing shoulder, Speier may be forced to miss extended time. In a corresponding move, the Mariners called up right-hander Collin Snider from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:42 pm

  • Mariners place Gabe Speier (shoulder) on 15-day IL
Mariners placed LHP Gabe Speier on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 30, with a left rotator cuff strain.

Advice: It’s not immediately clear how long the Mariners think the 29-year-old southpaw will be shelved for. Speier has struggled mightily in 22 appearances out of the M’s bullpen this season, posting a 6.06 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 22/10 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings of work. Collin Snider was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 1:41 pm

  • Mariners recall Collin Snider from Triple-A Tacoma
Mariners recalled RHP Collin Snider from Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander will get a chance to work out of the M’s bullpen with Gabe Speier (shoulder) landing on the injured list. Snider has made three appearances at the big league level this season, registering a 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 2/1 K/BB ratio across his three frames. Expect him to be utilized in a middle relief role. Rotoworld Today, 1:38 pm
