      Donovan went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Giants.

      Advice: Donovan continued to rake Thursday, posting his fourth three-hit game of the campaign and his third multi-hit performance in his last four contests. The outfielder's two-run blast in the first inning gave the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead, while his two-out, RBI single in the fifth added what would prove to be a pivotal insurance run. Donovan is up to seven long balls on the season, with three coming this month and two coming over his last three games. He's batting .299 in June with 11 RBI and seven runs scored.     • Brendan Donovan leads Cardinals to win over Giants
      Brendan Donovan went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Thursday, powering the Cardinals to a 6-5 victory over the Giants at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

      Advice: Donovan served as the Cardinals’ primary offensive catalyst in this one as the Alabama native took Giants starter Keaton Winn deep in the opening frame for his seventh big fly of the season. He also plated a key insurance run with a fifth-inning RBI single against Giants lefty reliever Taylor Rogers.     • Blows save, earns win
      Fairbanks (2-3) blew a save but earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

      Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base created a save situation. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged Fairbanks for a game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed in to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win Thursday.     • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
      Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

      Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game.     • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
      Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

      Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win.     • Aims for baseball activities soon
      Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he's hopeful Tucker (shin) will be ready to begin baseball activities this weekend, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Tucker's recovery from a right shin contusion has come along more slowly than expected, but he seems to have made some progress in recent days.     • Espada: “Hopeful” Tucker start activities
      Astros manager Joe Espada said he was “hopeful Kyle Tucker can begin doing baseball activities on the field this weekend.”

      Advice: Tucker’s shin contusion has kept him out longer than most expected, but it’s nice to hear he may progress to working out on the field this weekend. If that goes well, he may require a few rehab games since he’s been out for almost two weeks, but we could see Tucker back in an Astros uniform by the end of next week if his shin responds well to these next steps.     • Another sim game coming next week
      Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list shortly thereafter, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

      Advice: After tossing 31- and 37-pitch bullpen sessions last week, Gallen advanced to facing hitters in a simulated game Tuesday. Gallen's strained right hamstring apparently responded well to the workout, but the Diamondbacks will still have him toss another sim game during the upcoming week before signing off on his return to the rotation.
