    • Ben Brown struggles in follow-up to no-hit effort
      Ben Brown allowed five runs on six hits in five innings in a loss to the Reds on Sunday.

      Advice: Brown struck out six and walked one, but he was far more hittable in this one than last week. Brown did post a 32 percent whiff rate and 36 percent CSW on the day, but much of that was on the back of his curveball, which is a strong pitch. His four-seam fastball is less impressive, and Brown threw it 70 percent of the time on Sunday, which is part of the downside of Brown as a two-pitch pitcher. Brown has a 3.33 ERA on the season and has clear strikeout upside, but his limited pitch mix will make him a volatile fantasy asset and with Jordan Wicks set to return from the injured list, there’s no telling how many more starts Brown will make after next week’s start in Cincinnati.     • Pete Fairbanks picks up sixth save
      Pete Fairbanks worked a scoreless ninth and earned a save Sunday against the Orioles.

      Advice: Fairbanks has settled three saves in three weeks since coming off the IL last month, but he’s been exceptional. The only run he’s allowed in 10 appearances was an unearned one from the automatic runner scoring in extra innings. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:47 pm
       
    • Struggles against Astros
      Ryan (4-4) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

      Advice: Ryan was stung by the long ball in the loss, giving up a season-high four homers. He has allowed at least that many home runs in a start four times in his career, though he came into Saturday on pace for a career-best 0.9 HR/9. Ryan saw his season ERA jump from 2.96 to 3.38 as a result of the poor start, but that mark is still on pace for the best of his career. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:50 pm
       
    • Joe Ryan gives up four homers in loss to Astros
      Joe Ryan gave up five runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

      Advice: Ryan gave up eight hits, which is not great, and five of those hits left the park, which is worse. The 27-year-old was coming off an outstanding start against the Royals on Monday. This was anything but. He also walked two and struck out four in one of the worst outings of the season for Ryan. Expect better things for the right-hander against Pittsburgh next week.     • Faces hitters
      Kershaw (shoulder) threw live batting practice before Saturday's game against the Rockies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: Saturday marks the first time Kershaw has faced live hitters after spending the past month throwing bullpen sessions, though he was able to pitch only one simulated inning. He will continue to build up his workload over his next several live BP sessions before heading out on a rehab assignment with one of the Dodgers' minor-league affiliates. Assuming the 36-year-old southpaw doesn't run into any setbacks, he appears in line to return to Los Angeles' rotation in approximately 4-to-6 weeks. Rotowire.com Saturday, 3:31 pm
       
    • Eyeing Wednesday return
      Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Singer (illness) is feeling better but still needs a few more days to regain strength before potentially slotting back into the rotation Wednesday in Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Singer was scratched ahead of his most recent scheduled start Thursday versus the Twins due to an illness, but he now appears to be on track to return to the mound relatively soon. The right-hander is in the midst of a career year with Kansas City, producing a 2.63 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 64 strikeouts over 61.2 innings in his first 11 starts of 2024.     • Racks up eight punchouts
      Lopez (3-2) yielded a run on four hits and two walks over six innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Athletics.

      Advice: Lopez worked around some trouble throughout the contest and turned in one of his best starts of the year. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts with 16 whiffs, including nine with his slider. It was the first time he recorded more than five punchouts in a start since April 30. Lopez has produced six quality starts in 10 appearances, resulting in a 1.73 ERA through 57.1 frames. His next start is projected to be in Washington. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:47 pm
       
    • Zac Gallen diagnosed with Grade 1 hamstring strain
      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday night that Zac Gallen was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

      Advice: That’s obviously good news, as Grade 1 is the least severe of the strains. The 28-year-old hurler dealt with a similar injury back in 2021 and wound up missing the minimum 15 days of action. The Diamondbacks are hopeful that he’ll face a similar timeline this time as well and that he’ll be able to return to the starting rotation in mid-June when he’s eligible. Rotoworld Friday, 8:14 pm

    • Reynaldo López holds A’s to one run in victory
      Reynaldo López limited the A’s to one run in six innings and struck out eight in Atlanta’s 4-2 victory Friday.

      Advice: Another quality start moves him to 3-2 with a 1.73 ERA. That López has had a very light schedule has played some role in his success to date. His 10 starts have seen him face none of the league’s top five offenses by OPS yet each of the bottom four (the Mariners, Pirates, Marlins and White Sox). He’s certainly been good and he might continue to be until he starts to run out of gas, but he’s had it awfully easy thus far. Rotoworld Friday, 7:25 pm
