      Advice: Waldron was extremely impressive on a sizzling-hot, 87-degree afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, finishing with six strikeouts and only handing out a pair of free passes. His lone mistake came in the third inning when he left a sinker out over the plate to Phillies superstar Bryce Harper, who promptly deposited it into the left-field grandstand. The 27-year-old knuckleballer has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts dating back to May 11. He’ll bring a rapidly-improving 3.46 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 76/25 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (15 starts) into a favorable home outing on Monday against the Nationals. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:48 pm

    • Reynaldo López shuts out Tigers for five in win
      Reynaldo López scattered seven hits over five scoreless innings in a victory over the Tigers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Both Lopez and Tarik Skubal allowed seven hits in this one, but every one López surrendered was a single and they were all spread out; he allowed one each in the first three innings and two apiece in the fourth and fifth.     • Mitch Keller spins seven scoreless frames vs. Reds
      Mitch Keller struck out seven over seven scoreless innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Reds.

      Advice: Keller traded zeroes with Reds ace Hunter Greene during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at PNC Park, limiting Cincinnati’s injury-depleted lineup to just two hits and a pair of walks over seven nearly-flawless frames. He generated only nine swinging strikes, but consistently filled up the strike zone, finishing with a robust 34 percent CSW. The 28-year-old righty has been impressive of late, surrendering three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine outings since April 30. He’ll bring a pristine 3.11 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 85/24 K/BB ratio across 92 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch on Tuesday against the Pirates at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.       Irvin (5-6) took the loss Tuesday as the Nationals fell 5-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: A lack of offensive support gave the right-hander no margin for error, but Irvin did himself no favors by tossing first-pitch strikes to only 11 of the 22 batters he faced and issuing a season high in free passes. In fact, the 27-year-old hadn't walked more than two batters in any 2024 start prior to Tuesday. Irvin will take a 3.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 71:19 K:BB through 86 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Coors Field.       Miller struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Royals.

      Advice: Miller took a blown save in his last outing, though it was because he allowed an inherited runner to score. He's struggled a bit lately, allowing nine runs (six earned) with a 16:7 K:BB across 12.1 innings over his last 10 appearances. He's still performing quite well in the closer role for the Athletics, pitching to a 2.20 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB over 32.2 innings while going 13-for-15 in save chances this year.       X-rays were negative on Pete Fairbanks’ right thumb after he was hit by a comebacker Tuesday.

      Fairbanks was removed from Tuesday's game against the Twins after getting hit in the right hand by a comebacker, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Fairbanks attempted to field a 103-mph grounder off the bat of Carlos Correa with his bare hand during the ninth inning of Tuesday's contest. The reliever threw multiple warmup pitches in an effort to remain in the game, but the Rays' trainers elected to pull him early. Per Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, the main concern was with Fairbanks' thumb, but his X-rays came back negative after the game, and he appears to be dealing with only a bruise. The Rays might stay away from using the 30-year-old righty out of the bullpen for the next few days, but a trip to the injured list initially looks like it will be avoided.
