      Clarke Schmidt allowed two earned runs and four hits over five innings in the Yankees’ loss to the Mariners.

      Advice: The two earned runs Schmidt allowed came on a two-run homer by Dylan Moore on a pitch that was off the outside black of the plate. It was a well-thrown pitch that resulted in an unfortunate outcome for Schmidt, who was otherwise solid on the evening. He walked just two batters while striking out six and has now struck out six or more batters in seven of his 10 starts. Schmidt is scheduled to make his next start on Sunday against the Padres.       Robert Gasser was charged with five runs (four earned) over six innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

      Advice: On the heels of a pair of impressive outings to open his big-league career, Gasser turned in one of the more bizarre pitching lines of the season as he managed to allow five runs, despite not allowing a home run or walking a batter. He also didn’t record a strikeout. Weird. We’re not totally sure what to make of it, but we’d bank on the strikeouts coming back when he squares off against the Cubs on Monday in his next outing.     • Joe Ryan tosses seven scoreless to beat Nats
      Joe Ryan struck out six over seven shutout innings on Tuesday in a win over the Nationals.

      Advice: Ryan’s velocity was up across the board as his four-seam fastball had a little bit of extra life on it, which led to an impressive eight swinging strikes and a near-elite 39 percent CSW. He limited Washington’s lineup to just three hits and a pair of walks over seven stellar frames. The 27-year-old righty will bring a strong 3.15 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 64/9 K/BB ratio across 60 innings (10 starts) into a home outing on Monday against the division-rival Royals.     • Bobby Miller (shoulder) set for rehab start Sunday
      Bobby Miller (shoulder) faced hitters on Tuesday in a three-inning simulated game at Dodger Stadium.

      Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters afterwards that Miller will make a minor league rehab start on Sunday for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty will likely require a handful of rehab outings to build up his pitch count and stamina as he works his way back from right shoulder inflammation that put him on the shelf back in mid-April.       Miller (shoulder) threw a three-inning, 51-pitch sim game Tuesday and is expected to make a rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, according to manager Dave Roberts.

      Advice: Miller has been out since April 13 while nursing right shoulder inflammation, but he got one step closer to returning Tuesday. The 25-year-old will likely need to make multiple rehab starts with the team's minor-league affiliates before potentially returning to the major-league roster in early June.       Lopez allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 6.1 innings in a no-decision versus San Diego in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Lopez exited his previous start against the Cubs early due to back tightness, but the issue didn't seem to bother him Monday. The right-hander tossed 83 pitches and left in line for the win before Atlanta's bullpen crumbled late in the contest. Lopez earned his fourth quality start of the campaign but actually saw his ERA rise from 1.34 to 1.54, highlighting how great he's been this season.       Advice: Miller continues to make progress in his recovery after being sent to the 15-day injured list April 13 due to right shoulder inflammation. He successfully completed a bullpen session Saturday, and as expected, he's now been given the green light to toss a sim game.       Reynaldo López yielded two runs in 6 1/3 innings versus the Padres to take a no-decision in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader.

      Advice: López exited with a 5-1 lead in the seventh before one of his two inherited runners scored. That wasn’t bad, but then the Padres went on to score four runs off Joe Jiménez in the eighth to win the game.
