    • Luis Gil holds M’s to one hit, strikes out eight
Luis Gil held Seattle to one hit with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings Thursday while picking up a win.

Advice: Another masterful outing for Gil, one that might quiet the “move to the bullpen” talk when Gerrit Cole returns to the rotation. Gil did walk two, but he was mostly dominant with the only hit being a J.P. Crawford single in the fourth. Gil has struck out 22 batters over his last two starts in 12 1/3 innings, and his ERA is a sparkling 2.11. A chance to impress again is scheduled for Wednesday against the Angels in Los Angeles. • Luis Castillo allows two over five in defeat
Luis Castillo went five innings while surrendering two runs in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Castillo allowed seven hits with three walks, and he struck out three. There was significant traffic throughout the outing, but the right-hander’s only runs allowed came on solo homers by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. This makes back-to-back starts where Castillo hasn’t had his best stuff, but he was able to battle to hold powerful lineups in the Yankees and Orioles in check. He’s scheduled to face Houston on Tuesday. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

    • Tigers call up Mason Englert
Tigers recalled reliever Mason Englert from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Englert will take Alex Lange’s spot in the bullpen. The 24-year-old has been solid in Triple-A with a 2.35 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 23 innings while striking out 34 and walking nine. He has not yet been able to carry that success over to the MLB level but perhaps now is the time. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
    • Tigers send Alex Lange to minors
Tigers optioned reliever Alex Lange to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Lange was publicly chewed out by his manager A.J. Hinch on the mound during Wednesday’s game and despite Hinch claiming that had nothing to do with the demotion, we find that hard to believe. Going into Wednesday’s game, Lange had allowed just four earned runs in his previous 14 appearances. His command will certainly come and go, and it had been poor in the last three appearances, but the 28-year-old only has two bad outings all season. This feels like a situation that is heading for a break-up and if Lange is able to find his way onto a team that can improve his command, he still has a future as a solid reliever. • Optioned to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Lange to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Advice: A day after allowing four earned runs in one inning during Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Lange will be sent to Triple-A in order to get back on track. The 28-year-old owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.77 WHIP alongside a 21:17 K:BB through 18.2 innings this season, and he figures to return to Detroit's bullpen once he starts turning in promising results with Toledo. In the meantime, Mason Englert will come up from Triple-A to take Lange's place. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

    • Recalled from Triple-A
The Tigers recalled Englert from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Englert has put up a 2.35 ERA and 34:9 K:BB over 23 innings with Toledo this season. The 24-year-old collected a 5.46 ERA across 31 appearances for the Tigers last season. He should operate in low-leverage situations. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago
    • Mets claimed Ty Adcock on waivers
Mets claimed RHP Ty Adcock on waivers from the Tigers and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Adcock had struggled this year with a 9.00 ERA in six innings for the Tigers in Triple-A while striking out nine and walking six. He had also struggled in two innings at Triple-A for the Mariners and was waived in April. However, the 27-year-old was solid as a rookie in 2023, pitching to a 3.45 ERA across 12 appearances, so the Mets will hope to recapture some of that. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

    • Claimed by Mets
The Mets claimed Adcock off waivers from Detroit on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Adcock was DFA'd by the Tigers on Saturday, but he will reclaim a spot on a 40-man roster as he moves to New York. The 27-year-old righty has allowed eight earned runs across 8.1 innings between the Mariners' and Tigers' Triple-A affiliates, and a significant turnaround would likely be necessary before Adcock receives a call up to the majors. • Shane Baz activated, optioned to AAA
Rays activated Shane Baz (elbow) from the IL and optioned him to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz was strong in his last outing and had gotten up to 76 pitches. However, his command still needs to be refined as he works back from Tommy John surgery. Baz is likely to make a few starts in the minors and, provided they go well, could join the Rays’ rotation at some point in June. Rotoworld Today, 11:12 am
