Francisco Alvarez (thumb) starting rehab Thursday
Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.
Advice: That according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who also told reporters the catcher is expected to be behind the plate for five to seven innings. Alvarez was able to take batting practice over the weekend, and the 22-year-old backstop was reportedly hitting the ball hard as he works his way back from the thumb injury that has kept him out since April. Assuming no setbacks occur in the rehab assignment, Alvarez could be back for the Mets in the middle of June, possibly sooner.
