      Advice: Schanuel is starting to get in a groove at the plate, going 11-for-24 (.458) over his last seven games. That's a big improvement after he opened June 2-for-25 across seven contests.       Advice: Steer gave the Reds a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when he belted his eighth home run of the season. He's been quiet of late, having entered the contest on a 4-for-31 (.129) run with one RBI over the previous nine games. Despite the drop in production, Steer leads Cincinnati with 42 RBI.       Schanuel went 1-for-2 with a solo homer, two walks and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Giants.

      Advice: Schanuel belted a solo shot in the second inning for his seventh home run of the year and third in his last 10 games. However, he's gone just 8-for-34 (.235) during that span.     • Nolan Schanuel hits eighth homer versus Giants
      Nolan Schanuel hit his eighth homer and walked twice against the Giants on Sunday.

      Advice: The homer was projected at 410 feet, which was pretty stunning. As Baseball America’s JJ Cooper pointed out, this appears to be Schanuel’s first 400-foot flyball as a pro. Among major leaguers this year, Schanuel is in the first percentile in bat speed, the third percentile in hard-hit rate and the fifth percentile in average exit velocity. His previous long fly this year was 387 feet. It’s notable, though, that all four of his longest flies have come in June. It’s also notable that, in spite of that extreme lack of bat speed, he has more homers than Julio Rodríguez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Manny Machado, Austin Riley, Nolan Arenado and many others.       Advice: Schanuel went just 5-for-52 (.096) over 15 games since his last multi-hit effort. The first baseman is up to a .216/.282/.338 slash line with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 59 contests. His batting average hasn't been higher than .250 all year, but his iffy contact and lack of speed have yet to cost him the opportunity to regularly bat leadoff. However, Michael Stefanic got a look atop the order in the previous two games before sitting out Wednesday.       Advice: Steer recorded his 12th steal in 65 games, putting him on pace to surpass the 15 he had over 156 games in 2023. Speed was not a hallmark to his game in the minors, but the running Reds have changed that. On an unrelated note, the team received news that first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand is mulling season-ending wrist surgery.
