    • Shows improvement in second start
Clevinger allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.

Advice: Clevinger struggled mightily in his season debut Monday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over two innings. The veteran looked much better Saturday, yielding just a fourth-inning run while cutting the free passes entirely out of his stat line. Clevinger needed just one more out to qualify for the win, but he was pulled for a lefty reliever after giving up a single to the final batter he faced in the fifth frame. Despite that minor disappointment, this was a promising outing considering his disastrous previous start, and it should help him as he works to push up his pitch count after missing spring training and signing with Chicago in early April. • Gives up grand slam in loss
Lodolo (3-2) took the loss Saturday versus the Giants, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings.

Advice: His line is deceptive -- Lodolo permitted all four runs in the first inning on a Matt Chapman grand slam. He also gave up two hits in the fourth, but Lodolo escaped that rough patch with no further damage. The southpaw started the season with just five runs allowed over his first four starts, but he's been tagged for four runs in each of his last two outings. He's now at a 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 35 innings over six starts this season. Lodolo will look to get back on track in his next start, a tough one that is tentatively scheduled to be on the road versus the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Today, 7:53 pm

    • Starting Sunday in Pittsburgh
Hendricks (back) will rejoin the Cubs' rotation on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Hendricks had been slated to make one more rehab start, but Jameson Taillon (back) isn't quite ready to start Sunday so Hendricks will take the ball that day for the big club instead. The veteran hurler has been sidelined for the last three weeks with a lower-back strain but pitched well in two rehab outings, allowing three runs with a 13:3 K:BB in 9.1 frames. Hendricks held a woeful 12.00 ERA in five starts before getting injured, so fantasy mangers certainly need to see something positive before entrusting the righty. Rotowire.com Today, 6:58 pm

    • Kyle Hendricks (back) set to start for Cubs Sunday
Kyle Hendricks (back) will be activated from the injured list to start for the Cubs on Sunday afternoon against the Pirates.

Advice: The soft-tossing right-hander has really struggled through his first five starts on the season, registering a 12.00 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and a 16/7 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. It’s a decent matchup, but those looking for streaming options in fantasy leagues should steer clear. Rotoworld Today, 6:38 pm

    • Quality start in Coors return
Gray did not factor into the decision Friday against the Rockies, allowing one run on eight hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Gray collected a quality start in his return to Coors Field after departing Colorado in free agency following the 2021 season. The Texas right-hander racked up his third consecutive QS, firing a 1.71 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB in 21 innings over that span. Gray is slated to make his next start at home against Cleveland. • Jon Gray whiffs seven, allows one run vs. Rockies
Jon Gray struck out seven while allowing just a run over six innings Friday in a no-decision versus the Rockies.

Advice: Gray, 32, did allow eight hits, but he issued just one walk and was able to make enough big pitchers to hold the Colorado lineup to just that run in Coors Field. The right-hander has been excellent as of late, and he’s now allowed no more than one run in all but two starts in 2024. He’ll take a 2.36 ERA into his next scheduled start against Cleveland on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:05 pm

    • Sharp in second win
Valdez (2-1) earned the win Friday over the Tigers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Valdez allowed two runs on a Matt Vierling double in the third inning before blanking Detroit over his final four frames en route to his second victory of the year. It's an encouraging bounce-back effort from Valdez, who allowed five runs in a loss to Seattle in his previous start. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.64 with a 1.35 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across five starts (29.2 innings). Valdez, who has walked only one batter over his past three starts, is currently scheduled for a home matchup with the A's in his next outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:13 pm

    • Framber Valdez defeats Tigers to improve to 2-1
Framber Valdez pitched well in Friday night’s victory over the Tigers, allowing only two runs on six hits over seven frames.

Advice: Valdez walked two and punched out four on the night. He surrendered a two-run double to Matt Vierling in the third inning, but kept the Tigers’ off the board the remainder of his night — affording his offense the opportunity to come back and earn him a win, which they finally did in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old southpaw got 10 swings and misses on 103 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a 3.64 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 23/9 K/BB ratio (29 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Athletics. • Playing catch
Rodriguez (back) was playing catch out to 90 feet Friday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Rodriguez seems to be progressing well after being placed on the 15-day IL with thoracic spine inflammation April 30. While he'll be eligible to return May 14, it seems as though Rodriguez will need more time before being reinstated. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:56 pm
