      Advice: All of the Yankees' runs came via the long ball Wednesday, and Verdugo's eighth-inning blast cut off the Mariners' hopes of a comeback. The veteran outfielder has gone 11-for-37 (.297) over his last nine contests, picking up at least one hit in eight of them while adding nine RBI and five doubles. He's slashing .254/.325/.422 with six homers, 26 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base over 197 plate appearances this season. Verdugo won't get the accolades of fellow outfielders Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, but he's been a strong and steady presence as the Yankees' starting left fielder this season.       Teoscar Hernández finished 0-for-4 in the loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

      Advice: Hernández got a visit from the trainer after hurting his ankle while fielding a single in the second inning tonight, but he was able to finish the game without incident.       Conforto (hamstring) has been cleared to take on-field batting practice, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

      Advice: Conforto landed on the 10-day injured list just over a week ago a right hamstring strain. Taking batting practice is certainly a positive step in his recovery, although running will be a bigger hurdle for him to clear and it's uncertain when he might be ready for that.       Michael Conforto (hamstring) has resumed hitting.

      Advice: Conforto is expected to ramp up his running progression this week as he continues to recover from a right hamstring strain that sent him to the injured list back on May 12.       Advice: Verdugo opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning and later knocked an RBI single. After posting an .804 OPS in his first 29 games, he's struggled in 17 games this month, going 15-for-64 (.234) with five extra-base hits.       Advice: Verdugo’s career-high in home runs is just 13, but he has a nice spot in the middle of the Yankees’ order as the clean-up hitter against right-handed starting pitchers. Verdugo has 22 runs scored and 24 RBI in 46 games this season.

      Seiya Suzuki walked, drove in a run and scored a run on Sunday afternoon as the Cubs fell to the Pirates in their series finale in Chicago.

      Advice: Suzuki got the Cubs on the board in the third inning as he plated Mike Tauchman with a sacrifice fly. He was then hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, advanced to third on a double by Cody Bellinger and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Christopher Morel.
