    • One out shy of quality start
Assad didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.

Advice: Although Assad was only at 85 pitches, he was pulled one out before becoming eligible for the quality start after allowing a pair of baserunners. Although Assad has only completed six innings once in five starts, he boasts a 2.00 ERA and a 26:9 K:BB with a 2-0 record. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against the Mets on Tuesday. • Solid start against White Sox
Woods Richardson gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings in Thursday's win over the White Sox but got a no-decision. He struck out six.

Advice: Woods Richardson pitched well enough to likely keep him in the rotation for at least another start or two as the Twins look for a fifth starter. He's shown increased velocity this season with an average 93.2 mph fastball compared to an average 90.5 mph fastball last season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:04 pm
    • Freddie Freeman scalds RBI double in Dodgers’ win
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-3 with an RBI double on Thursday, lifting the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Freeman has flown a bit under the radar with Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani justifiably stealing the early-season spotlight. However, his latest multi-hit performance puts his batting average back above the .300 mark for the first time this season. The 34-year-old fantasy stalwart has shown zero signs of slowing down at this stage of his career and remains an elite four-category contributor also capable of chipping in the occasional stolen base. • Nico Hoerner picks up three more hits vs. Astros
Nico Hoerner went 3-for-5 against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Hoerner singled twice and added a double. The 26-year-old now has his average to .300 to go with a .785 OPS. This makes back-to-back multi-hit games for Hoerner, and he appears to be figuring things out after a slow start on the season. Fantasy managers sure would like to see more running from a player that stole 43 bases last year, as Hoerner is still stuck on one stolen base in 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm

    • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm

    • Woods-Richardson solid in spot start vs CWS
Simeon Woods-Richardson allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox, striking out six and walking one.

Advice: Obviously, the seven hits are not ideal and Woods-Richardson allowed six hard-hit baseballs in his five innings of work, but he also posted a solid 20 percent whiff rate and pounded the zone with his four-seam and changeup. His slider also posted a 33 percent whiff rate which showcases a deep enough arsenal to last as a starter. The bigger concern is that he got almost no called strikes and most of the pitches he threw on the edge of the strike zone or just off the plate were fouled off, which suggests a lack of deception or true swing-and-miss stuff. The 23-year-old has produced solid surface-level stats through his two starts and is set up for another start against the White Sox next week, so he could be worth grabbing in deeper formats. • Royals place Alec Marsh (elbow) on 15-day IL
Royals placed RHP Alec Marsh on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Marsh was hit by a line drive off Addison Barger on Wednesday which made him leave the game early. Originally the team called it a forearm injury, but tests revealed that the injury is on his elbow. The 25-year-old will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks before he can return to action. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:12 am

    • Goes on injured list
The Royals placed Marsh on the 15-day injured Thursday with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Marsh departed early in his start in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Toronto after being struck in the right elbow by a comebacker. X-rays came back negative on Marsh's elbow, and though he sustained nothing more than a bruise, the Royals decided it was best to shut him down for the next 15 days. The Royals called up Will Klein from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday to give the bullpen a fresh arm in the short term, but it's not immediately clear who will replace Marsh in the rotation. • Returns from IL
The Nationals reinstated Ruiz (illness) from the 10-day injured list Thursday. He'll start at catcher and bat fifth in the Nationals' series finale versus the Dodgers.

Advice: Ruiz missed the Nationals' last 11 games while recovering from a case of influenza. He checked out fine after making two rehab appearances with Double-A Harrisburg earlier this week and should settle back in as the Nationals' No. 1 catcher now that he's been activated from the IL. Washington optioned catcher Drew Millas to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:04 am
