    • Returns from injured list
Gelof (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Tuesday against the Astros.

Advice: The 24-year-old has been sidelined nearly three weeks by an oblique strain and is back with Oakland after a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Gelof had a slow start to the campaign with a .597 OPS through 24 games but should operate as the Athletics' primary second baseman now that he's healthy. Rotowire.com Today, 1:30 pm

    • A’s activate Zack Gelof for Tuesday return
Athletics activated 2B Zack Gelof from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Gelof makes his return to Oakland’s lineup following a nearly three-week absence recovering from a left oblique strain. The 24-year-old second baseman was off to a frosty start at the dish, slashing .196/.260/.337 with three homers and four steals in 101 plate appearances over 24 contests prior to landing on the injured list back in late April. Simply put, Gelof needs to cut back on the strikeouts moving forward if he’s going to make a major impact for fantasy managers as a power/speed threat at the keystone. • Lengthy power outage
Amador is slashing .138/.312/.149 with zero home runs, 12 steals and more walks (19) than strikeouts (17) in 25 games for Double-A Hartford.

Advice: Coming into the year, Amador was seen as one of the best pure hitters in the minors, so it's a bit jarring to see his batting average sitting at .138 through the first five weeks of the season. Perhaps more concerning though, is Amador's complete lack of power, as his .171 BABIP and overly patient approach largely explain his low batting average. Amador's 20.6 percent hard-hit rate and 63.2 percent groundball rate are very troubling marks. He is playing half his games in Hartford, which is essentially a neutral hitting environment, after getting to play half his High-A games at the very hitter-friendly park in Spokane, which helped him slug .514 in 54 High-A games last year. • Swats third homer
Merrill went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's loss to Colorado.

Advice: Merrill was the only Padre with multiple hits in the contest, and his seventh-inning solo shot brought the team to within one run, though it turned out to be the final tally of the game. The rookie has notched consecutive multi-hit performances and has multiple hits in four of his past eight contests overall, so he could be back on the rise following an eight-game stretch from late April to early May during which he went 1-for-23 at the plate. Merrill still has a strong .291/.342/.403 slash line along with three homers, 17 RBI, 18 runs and six stolen bases on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:42 am

    • Gimenez has two hits Monday
Andres Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and one RBI against the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Gimenez scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning before hitting an RBI double in the ninth inning. His power has almost completely disappeared as he’s now sporting a .105 ISO on the season. The Guardians lineup has been so good for run scoring that Gimenez has still managed to score 22 runs and drive in 21 runs in 39 games this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:48 pm

    • Activation appears imminent
Gelof (oblique) rejoined the Athletics on Monday and could be activated from the 10-day injured list during their four-game series in Houston, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gelof played consecutive full rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and Sunday, which was the last box he needed to check before returning to the big club. The Athletics seem content to give Gelof a rest day Monday before likely activating him ahead of Tuesday's contests. Gelof has been out since late April with a strained left oblique. • Lifts homer in win
Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-0 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Gimenez had gone 0-for-15 with one walk and a stolen base over his previous four games. He snapped the skid with a fourth-inning solo shot, his second homer of the year. The second baseman is at a .242/.307/.342 slash line with 20 RBI, 20 runs scored and five stolen bases through 38 contests. He's remained in the No. 2 spot in the order versus right-handers since Steven Kwan (hamstring) went on the injured list, but the Guardians haven't gotten much hitting from the trio of Estevan Florial, Brayan Rocchio or Tyler Freeman, who had all gotten looks at leadoff in that span. As such, Gimenez's chances to produce RBI will likely be down in the near term. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:35 pm

    • Plays full rehab game again
Gelof (oblique) played a full game at second base in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over Round Rock on Sunday, going 0-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly and a walk.

Advice: Gelof's ability to play a full game for the second straight day is certainly an encouraging sign for his progress from his oblique injury. The young infielder could be on the verge of activation, although the Athletics will undoubtedly evaluate him carefully Monday to see how he's responded to the back-to-back full workloads over the weekend. • Impactful game in win
Merrill went 3-for-4 with two steals and a run scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Merrill tallied at least three hits in a game for the fourth time this season and it was his 11th multi-hit game of his rookie campaign. Merrill hadn't swiped a bag since April 16 but managed to steal and eventually score in the fourth before taking another base in the eighth. He's settled in nicely thus far, slashing .282/.331/.374 with two homers, 16 RBI, 17 runs, six steals and a 10:23 BB:K in 143 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:00 pm
