• Optioned to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Advice: Bryan Woo (elbow) is ready to rejoin the Mariners' rotation this weekend, leaving no room for Hancock, who posted a 5.24 ERA and 23:11 K:BB over 34.1 innings covering seven starts. He'll join Tacoma's rotation and wait for another opportunity with the big club. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago
  • Out with hyperextended knee
The Mariners placed Saucedo on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a hyperextended right knee.

Advice: Saucedo suffered the injury during Tuesday's game against the Twins while running to cover first base. It would appear he has avoided a serious injury, but it's not clear how long the reliever might be on the shelf. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Hangs on for fifth save
Romano earned the save in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Phillies despite allowing one run on three hits in the ninth inning.

Advice: Tasked with protecting a three-run lead in the ninth, Romano allowed a run on a Bryson Stott double. However, he managed to strand the tying runs on second and third, inducing a pair of popouts, to lock down his fifth save of the year. While Romano is a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances, things haven't come easy of late -- he's now allowed a run and multiple hits in back-to-back appearances. Overall, the 31-year-old right-hander sports a 4.70 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB through his first 7.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago
  • Returns from IL
The Mariners activated Bazardo (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Bazardo has been out all season with a right rotator cuff strain but is ready to go after allowing two runs with a 7:1 K:BB over 5.1 rehab innings. He will occupy a middle relief role. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
  • Undergoes MRI on knee
Topa underwent an MRI on his left knee after feeling soreness following his last rehab appearance with Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: Topa was able to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, so it would appear to be a minor setback. However, the reliever is still awaiting results of the MRI before determining the next steps. Topa had been poised to be activated soon before this bump in the road. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

  • Strong effort vs. Phillies
Bassitt (3-5) earned the win Wednesday over the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: It was an impressive outing from Bassitt, as the right-hander limited a powerful Phillies offense to just three hits to snap a three-start losing streak. It's been an inconsistent start to the year for Bassitt though he seems to be rounding into form of late, delivering back-to-back quality starts. He lowered his ERA to 5.06 with a 1.55 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across his first 42.2 innings this year. Bassitt's currently lined up for a road matchup against the Orioles in his next outing early next week. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Making MLB debut Saturday
The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season. • Tanner Bibee pulled after four against Tigers
Tanner Bibee gave up four runs in four innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Bibee cruised through three innings, allowing just one single, but everything went wrong in the fourth, which started with a single to conclude a 10-pitch at-bat. The Tigers wound up getting three more hits, as well as a key HBP, to produce a four-run inning in which Bibee threw more pitches (43) than in the first three combined (39). It was such a long inning that the Guardians didn’t bring Bibee back out for the fifth. Unfortunately, Bibee will miss the four-game series against the White Sox this weekend and make his next start in Texas against the Rangers. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Reese Olson allows just one hit to Guardians
Reese Olson held the Guardians to two runs — one earned — and one hit over six innings on Wednesday.

Advice: Olson gave up six hard-hit balls, but five turned into groundouts and the other was a routine fly. The lone hit was a well-placed grounder from Austin Hedges that produced two runs after two walks and an error in the first. It’s Olson’s third straight strong outing, but he just can’t find his way into the win column. Left with a no-decision today after the bullpen blew a two-run lead, he’s 0-4 in spite of a 2.52 ERA.
