• Jared Triolo goes 0-for-4 against Angels
Jared Triolo finished 0-for-4 in the loss to the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: We figured Triolo would prove to be a solid bat for the Pirates, but he’s come in at just .206/.293/.250 to date. Last year, he had 12 extra-base hits in 181 at-bats as a rookie. Right now, he has three in 120 at-bats. Nick Gonzales has been terrific in Triple-A, so maybe it’s time for the Pirates to try something different at second base. Rotoworld Today, 12:19 pm

  • Moving into regular role
Newman will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Newman will make his third straight start at shortstop -- all against right-handed pitching -- and looks to have supplanted Blaze Alexander as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at the position while the team waits for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) to return from the injured list. Though he's turned in a poor .559 OPS through 62 plate appearances with Arizona this season, Newman has been a much more polished defender at shortstop than Alexander. Rotowire.com Today, 12:18 pm

  • Fading into reserve role
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Alexander is on the bench for a third straight game, with all three absences coming against right-handed pitching. The rookie has a lowly .544 OPS over his past nine games and has gotten poor reviews for his work in the field, so he looks like he'll remain in a backup role at shortstop behind Kevin Newman until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is back from the injured list. • Keeps up hard hitting Tuesday
Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a triple, a walk and two runs in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Moore's propensity for hard contact was on full display again Tuesday, with the veteran utility man belting his seventh and eighth extra-base hits of the season. Moore has already tied a career high with his pair of three-baggers, and with four doubles, he's just under halfway to his 2023 total of nine in that department. The 31-year-old came into Tuesday with a .143 average and 32.3 percent strikeout rate over the prior 10 games, making his first multi-hit effort since April 24 a particularly welcome sight. • Moving into regular role
Schneider will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Kevin Kiermaier's return from the injured list Saturday was expected to cost Schneider some playing time, but the latter player will end up making his third straight start Wednesday. The previous two starts came in left field, but Schneider will man the keystone in the series finale in Philadelphia while the lefty-hitting Cavan Biggio heads to the bench against right-hander Aaron Nola. Schneider holds a 201-point edge in OPS over Biggio for the season (.822 to .621), so the Blue Jays could be motivated to give Schneider an extended look at second base while he's swinging the hotter bat of the two. • Belts eighth homer
Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom. • DFA imminent
The Red Sox will designate Short for assignment on Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Short will be kicked off the 40-man roster just a week after Boston acquired him from New York. The 28-year-old played in just two games for the Red Sox, going 0-for-7 with four strikeouts. Romy Gonzalez (wrist) will be reinstated from the IL to take Short's spot on the active roster. • Expected to return Wednesday
The Red Sox are expected to reinstate Gonzalez (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Gonzalez has been on the injured list since April 13 due to a left wrist sprain, and he's gone 4-for-11 with three RBI since beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Friday. Once activated, the 27-year-old infielder will presumably move into a reserve role behind Vaughn Grissom and Ceddanne Rafaela. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:12 pm

  • Isaac Paredes posts three hits, homers in win
Isaac Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday, leading the Rays to a 5-1 victory over the White Sox.

Advice: Paredes ripped an absolute moonshot to left field in the sixth inning off Chicago reliever Brad Keller for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s gone deep since April 28. The 25-year-old pull-happy slugger has been a four-category fantasy monster this season with a .299 batting average through 34 contests.
