• Marcus Stroman beats Braves to improve to 7-3
Marcus Stroman picked up his seventh victory of the season on Saturday night, limiting the Braves to three runs on just three hits over his 6 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: Stroman piled up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. The 33-year-old hurler had allowed just one run through his first six innings of work, but he returned for the seventh where he served up a two-run blast to Travis d’Arnaud before exiting. Stroman got 12 swings and misses on 93 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 27 percent. Now 7-3 on the season, he’ll tote a 3.15 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 67/40 K/BB ratio (91 1/3 innings) into Friday’s battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • David Bednar (side) was unavailable on Saturday
Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton told reporters after Saturday’s victory that David Bednar was unavailable due to tightness in his left side.

Advice: It was surprising to see Aroldis Chapman close out a one-run victory for the Pirates against the Rays instead of Bednar, and now we know why. Shelton noted that he doesn’t believe the injury is anything serious, but Bednar’s status should be monitored over the coming days. Those speculating on saves in daily leagues could try to catch lightning in a bottle with Chapman. Rotoworld Today, 4:27 pm

  • Wasn't available Saturday
Bednar was unavailable for Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays due to left side tightness, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Bednar missed out on a save chance Saturday as Aroldis Chapman stepped up in the ninth to close out the win. Bednar's absence was planned after feeling the tightness during his pregame throwing program but the injury isn't considered to be serious at this point. If he ends up missing more than just Saturday's game, expect Chapman to continue to see save chances. Rotowire.com Today, 4:18 pm

  • Shut down from throwing
Romano experienced right elbow soreness after long tossing from 120 feet Friday and has been shut down from throwing, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Advice: Romano was slated to throw off the mound over the weekend, but he will now take a break while the team determines next steps. Prior to landing on the injured list June 1, the 31-year-old closer registered eight saves across 15 outings with a 6.59 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 13.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 11:40 am

  • Jordan Romano shut down due to elbow soreness
Jordan Romano has been shut down from throwing due to renewed right elbow soreness.

Advice: Not good. Romano has been out since late May recovering from a right elbow issue and the fact that he’s still experiencing soreness isn’t good. The issue cropped up during a long-tossing session on Friday and the Blue Jays have shut him down for the moment to determine his next steps. It’ll be Chad Green continuing to close for Toronto for at least a couple additional weeks with both Romano and Yimi García (elbow) sidelined due to injury. Rotoworld Today, 11:33 am

  • Placed on IL
The Giants placed Winn on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Winn allowed five earned runs in just 2.2 innings during his last start Thursday, and it's possible that his elbow injury played a part in his poor performance. The 26-year-old will now head to the injured list for the second time this season, putting another dent in a heavily-injured Giants pitching staff. David Villar was brought up from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, though it is unclear who will take Winn's place in the rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 8:47 am

  • Keaton Winn heads to IL with elbow inflammation
Giants placed RHP Keaton Winn on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 21, with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Winn heads back to the injured list for the second time this season after allowing five runs over 2 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals. There should be some clarity on the 26-year-old right-hander’s status in the coming days after he undergoes some additional testing and imaging. Fantasy managers should anticipate him missing at least a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario outcome. Rotoworld Today, 8:46 am

  • Earns first save
Abreu allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned a save over Baltimore on Friday.

Advice: Abreu worked around a two-out single to close out the chaotic 14-11 victory. It was his first save of the year and he extended his scoreless streak to 8.2 innings. After allowing six runs in 5.2 innings to begin his season, Abreu has yielded just five runs in his last 32 appearances, lowering his season ERA to 2.58. Josh Hader seemingly received a routine day off after earning back-to-back saves against the White Sox on Wednesday and Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 5:10 am

  • Bryan Abreu picks up first save of 2024
Bryan Abreu protected a three-run lead against the Astros for his first save Friday.

Advice: Josh Hader, Ryan Pressly and Abreu all worked the previous two days, but the youngest of the trio was the only one available tonight, apparently. Abreu got the job done and finally picked up his first save in the process. He leads the AL with 38 appearances this season, and his ERA is down to 2.58 after a rough start. Still. because of the lack of saves, he’ll make less than a quarter of what he’s worth in arbitration again next year. Rotoworld Today, 12:08 am
