  • MacKenzie Gore denied win after strong showing
    MacKenzie Gore allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings and struck out eight Monday against the Mets.

    Advice: Gore was at 104 pitches, so it’s kind or understandable that he was pulled in the sixth. Still, he seemed to be very much in control at that point. He’d given up just a soft single before rebounding to retire the next two batters in the sixth. The Nationals pulled him with a 2-0 lead in favor of Derek Law, and the Mets, aided by a CJ Abrams error, went on to score three runs in the frame.   • Fans eight in no-decision
    Gore did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

    Advice: The Washington southpaw created an incredible 21 whiffs to collect his eight punchouts. This was a bounce back performance for Gore as he struggled in five June starts with a 5.13 ERA across 26.1 innings. The 25-year-old's season ERA now stands at 3.47 with 107:29 K:BB over 90.2 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next outing against the Cardinals at home this weekend.   • Making rehab start Wednesday
    Senga (shoulder/triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Brooklyn on Wednesday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Senga is slated to throw about 40 pitches in his first game appearance since he was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain back in February. The right-hander will require multiple rehab outings before returning from the 60-day injured list, but he should be able to make his first start for the Mets before the end of July if all goes well.   • Kodai Senga (shoulder) set for rehab start
    Kodai Senga, out since the beginning of the year with a shoulder injury, will make his first rehab start Wednesday with Single-A Brooklyn.

    Advice: He’s due to throw 40 pitches his first time out. The Mets haven’t announced a plan beyond that, but if all goes well, four rehab starts and return to the Mets rotation during the final week of July would seem to be a possibility. Rotoworld Today, 1:56 pm

  • Brandon Nimmo absent due to cut on forehead
    Brandon Nimmo is out of Monday’s lineup after suffering a cut on his forehead when he fell in his hotel room last night.

  • Nursing forehead laceration
    Nimmo is absent from Monday's lineup against the Nationals due to a laceration on his forehead, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

    Advice: Nimmo suffered the cut when he slipped and fell in his hotel room Sunday night in Washington, D.C.     Merrill went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Sunday's loss to Boston.

    Advice: Merrill was the only Padre to notch multiple hits in the contest, and he scored the team's only run after belting a one-out double in the seventh inning. The rookie finished June with back-to-back three-hit games, with half of his knocks during the pair of contests going for extra bases.
