• Moves past illness
Estrada (illness) struck out two and gave up an earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Estrada relayed prior to Wednesday's game that he had been dealing with an illness, but it didn't deter the Padres from turning to him in the eighth inning while the Padres faced a 3-2 deficit. Though Estrada let in a run to give the Athletics a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, Donovan Solano tied the game with a two-run home run later in the frame before Jackson Merrill hit a walk-off blast in the bottom of the ninth. Estrada hasn't been used since Wednesday, but with his bout with the illness now a few more days in the rear-view mirror, he should be available for Sunday's series finale against the Mets. • Notches win Friday
Duran (2-2) allowed a walk over two scoreless innings Friday. He struck out one and earned a win over Oakland.

Advice: Duran kept the Athletics off the board in the ninth and 10th frames as the Twins eventually delivered the walk-off win. He's 2-0 with a hold over his last three outings since coughing up three runs against the Pirates on June 8. The 26-year-old righty has not picked up a save since June 2. For the season, Duran's ERA is down to 3.66 with a 17:8 K:BB and 10 saves through 19.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:57 am

  • Johan Duran secures victory against Athletics
Jhoan Duran picked up his second victory of the season on Friday evening, working two scoreless innings against the Athletics.

Advice: Duran came on to work the top half of the ninth inning in a tied game and kept the A’s off the board. He then returned for the 10th inning and retired the side in order, setting the stage for Max Kepler’s heroics. On the season, he now boasts a 3.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 17/8 K/BB ratio (19 2/3 innings) to go along with a pair of victories and 10 saves in 10 opportunities. Rotoworld Friday, 8:44 pm

  • Blows fourth save Thursday
Holmes (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.

Advice: Holmes was one out away from his 20th save of the season before serving up a two-run double to Maikel Garcia. The 31-year-old closer had gone nine straight appearances without allowing a run and still carries an impressive 1.80 ERA for the season. As the ninth-inning man for the club with the most wins in MLB, he remains one of the safest options at the position, with his 19 saves being tied for third most this season. • Clay Holmes takes blown save, loss in ninth
Clay Holmes took a blown save and a loss after giving up two runs and three hits in the ninth Thursday against the Royals.

Advice: Holmes made his own trouble by botching the play at first base on the soft infield single that started the ninth. Another single followed, and then Maikel Garcia ended the game with a double that stayed just fair down the right field line. It went as Holmes’ fourth blown save, even though this was only the second time in 31 appearances this season that he’s allowed an earned run. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:26 pm

  • Fans 12 in no-decision
King came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the A's, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks over five-plus innings. He struck out 12.

Advice: The right-hander set a season high in Ks and took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning, but after allowing back-to-back singles to begin the frame, King left the mound and watched as Wandy Peralta let both inherited runners cross the plate. King hasn't been tagged for more than three runs in any of his last five starts, posting a 2.20 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 34:8 K:BB in 28.2 innings over that stretch. He'll face a much tougher test in his next outing, on the road early next week in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:26 am

  • Michael King strikes out 12 on Wednesday vs. A’s
Michael King struck out a season-high 12 and allowed two runs over five innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Athletics.

Advice: King turned in one of his best outings of the year, generating an eye-popping 19 swinging strikes -- including 15 combined on his changeup and sweeper combination — and finished with a near-elite 39 percent CSW. The 29-year-old righty has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts since May 4. He’ll bring a solid 3.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 95/34 K/BB ratio across 83 innings (15 appearances, 14 starts) into a challenging road matchup on Tuesday against the red-hot Phillies. • Hopes to be available Wednesday
Estrada is dealing with an illness but believes he'll be available out of the bullpen Wednesday versus the Athletics, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Estrada went unused in Tuesday's 4-3 win because of the illness. The reliever said Wednesday that he's still a bit under the weather, but he thinks he's feeling well enough to give it a go, if needed. Estrada boasts a 43.2 percent strikeout rate across 18 appearances for the Padres this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:12 am
  • Jeremiah Estrada (illness) expects to be available
Jeremiah Estrada thinks he’ll be available Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game with an illness.

Advice: Estrada isn’t 100 percent, but he feels like he can go. The Padres missed him last night, as Enyel De Los Santos blew a two-run lead in the eighth. Still, the team won in the bottom of the ninth anyway. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:52 am
