    Advice: Cave will start in right field for the Rockies' third straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher and looks to have supplanted Sean Bouchard as the primary option at that position. Despite the uptick in playing time, Cave will likely soon be headed for a reserve role with Kris Bryant (back) trending toward a return from the 10-day injured list as soon as this weekend.     Hunter Goodman and Sean Bouchard are both on the bench for a third straight game Wednesday against the Padres.

    Advice: The Rockies won the first two games of the series with Elehuris Montero at first and Jake Cave in right, so they’re not changing anything today. The handling of Goodman, one of the team’s best prospects, has been bizarre; he’s started just six of 19 games since his callup. One imagines he’ll be sent down soon.   • Mariners activate Dominic Canzone from I.L.
    Mariners activated OF Dominic Canzone from the 10-day injured list.

    Advice: Canzone was hitting .219/.286/.531 in 14 games before going down with a shoulder injury. He was ahead of Luke Raley on the depth chart at that point, but with Raley heating up, he might take more of a backseat for now, at least assuming that Mitch Garver is able to return to the DH spot in the coming days. If Garver lands on the IL, both Raley and Canzone could start in the outfield against righties, with Mitch Haniger DHing. That is the alignment today, as Canzone is playing left and batting seventh.     The Mariners reinstated Canzone (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

    Advice: The Mariners weren't expected to bring Canzone back from the IL until this weekend, but he'll end up joining the club for its series finale with the Royals after he checked out fine following his third rehab game with Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Prior to landing on the shelf April 15 with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, Canzone had taken hold of a strong-side platoon role in left field. Those duties have largely fallen to Luke Raley during his absence, and though Raley has enjoyed a hot run at the plate of late, Canzone will step into the starting lineup in his first game back with the team.
