    • Justin Verlander struggles again in no-decision
      Justin Verlander struggled again in a no-decision against the Angels on Sunday, giving up four runs on seven hits over his five frames.

      Advice: The 41-year-old hurler struck out three batters on the afternoon and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Angels scratched out a pair of runs on sacrifice flies off the bat of Nolan Schanuel, added another as Mickey Moniak bunted into a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning and then Willie Calhoun smacked a run-scoring single in the fifth. Still, Verlander exited with his team leading 7-4 and in line for a victory — but the Astros’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. He got just three swings and misses on 101 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 28 percent.       Clase allowed a solo home run and struck out one during the ninth inning of Sunday's 6-3 win over the Marlins.

      Advice: Clase took the mound in the ninth inning despite the Guardians owning a four-run lead, and he surrendered a two-out solo homer to Jake Burger during the outing. Due to the score, Clase wasn't eligible for a save, though the Guardians opted to give him his first game action since Tuesday.       Alvarado (1-3) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning against the Mets. He struck out two.

      Advice: Alvarado entered the game with a one-run lead looking to preserve his 12th save, but things went downhill quickly. After allowing a walk and a single to start the inning, an infield single by Mark Vientos tied the game. Then with the bases loaded and one out, a hit-by-pitch followed by a passed ball allowed two more runners to score, saddling Alvarado with his second blown save and third loss of the season. Sunday's outing came on the heels of five consecutive scoreless appearances since his last blown save, which came May 24 in Colorado.       José Alvarado took a loss and blew a save while allowing three runs — two earned — in 2/3 of an inning against the Mets on Sunday in a 6-5 loss for the Phillies.

      Advice: Alvarado is normally one of the more reliable stoppers in baseball, but Sunday wasn’t a good example of it. The southpaw issued a pair of walks and gave up two hits, and while he wasn’t helped by his defense, it was still a disappointing effort where he threw just 18-of-35 pitches for strikes.       Brown (1-3) took the loss to the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three over four innings.

      Advice: Brown gave up multiple home runs in a game for the first time in his young career. Jeimer Candelario took him deep in the first inning and then TJ Friedl got him for the go-ahead homer in the third. The rookie right-hander has now given up eight runs in his last two starts after a stellar showing of seven no-hit innings against the Brewers on May 28.       Peralta did not factor into the decision Saturday against the Tigers, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings.

      Advice: Peralta had issues with his command Saturday, with the five walks being tied for his second most this season. He threw 94 pitches to retire just 10 batters as he found himself in constant trouble with a lot of traffic on the bases.       Freddy Peralta struggled with his command in a no-decision against the Tigers on Saturday afternoon, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks in just 3 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: The right-hander struck out three batters on the day. He had to really labor to get 10 outs in the ballgame, needing 94 pitches (56 strikes) to do so. Most of the damage came during a three-run uprising in the second inning as Carson Kelly and Mark Canha contributed run-scoring singles. Peralta got just five swings and misses in the contest, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 24 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back as he carries a 3.95 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 92/26 K/BB ratio (70 2/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Reds. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:24 pm

      Advice: Brown gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three. He allowed five runs in his last start, which was also against the Reds. Brown has completed five innings in only three of his eight starts for the Cubs this year. He’s still looking for his first win as a starting pitcher. Outside of his performance on May 28th against the Brewers when he went seven innings, allowed no runs and recorded 10 strikeouts, Brown’s been fairly pedestrian when starting. The 24-year-old right-hander is tentatively scheduled to face the Cardinals at home next week.

      Jordan Romano (elbow) is scheduled to resume throwing on Monday.

      Advice: Blue Jays manager John Schneider added that Romano received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right elbow last weekend. It’s going to take a couple weeks for the 31-year-old closer to build up his arm strength before returning to Toronto’s bullpen, but it’s an encouraging sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again.
