    • On tap for bulk relief Monday
Howard is expected to serve as the Giants' primary pitcher out of the bullpen in Monday's game against the Cubs, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Left-hander Erik Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher but isn't likely to work more than an inning or two before turning the game over to Howard, who is expected to eat up the bulk of the innings. Howard covered just one frame in his last appearance, but prior to that, he averaged nearly four innings and more than 60 pitches in his first four outings for the Giants following his May 28 call-up from Triple-A Sacramento. • Gives up two earned runs in relief
Howard was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over one inning of relief in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. He recorded three strikeouts.

Advice: After making both of his previous two appearances as a starter, Howard was deployed out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Erik Miller. Miller left the game after pitching the first inning, then Spencer Bivens, Sean Hjelle and Taylor Rogers worked innings two through six before Howard entered the game in the top of the seventh. Though he worked just one frame, Howard tossed 33 pitches and should remain fairly stretched out if the Giants need to turn to him for a start or a bulk-relief appearance during the team's four-game series against the Cubs to begin the upcoming week. The Giants currently have just two healthy full-time starters (Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks). Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:34 pm
    • Making second start Monday
Spiers is slated to start Monday's game against the Pirates in Cincinnati.

Advice: He'll be rewarded with a second turn through the rotation and a second straight matchup with the Pirates after he held the Bucs to four runs while striking out five over six innings during his start this past Monday in Pittsburgh. Across his one start and five extended relief appearances this season, Spiers owns a 3.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB over 25.1 innings. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:12 am
    • A.J. Minter starts rehab assignment on Saturday
A.J. Minter (hip) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with High-A Rome.

Advice: Minter has been out since late May recovering from left hip inflammation and will likely require at least a handful of rehab outings in the minors before returning to Atlanta’s bullpen mix. Rotoworld Saturday, 8:29 am

    • Beginning rehab assignment
Minter (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Saturday.

Advice: Minter has been on the injured list since the end of May due to left hip inflammation, but he has now been given the green light to return to a competitive setting. It's unclear how long the 30-year-old southpaw will remain in the minors, but it shouldn't take long for him to build back up as a reliever. He currently owns a 2.95 ERA and 0.98 WHIP through 21.1 innings on the year, and he will likely reprise his role as Atlanta's main setup man upon returning to the big-league bullpen. • Grabs first win
Medina (1-2) allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Royals.

Advice: Medina came up one out short of a quality start, exiting the game at 88 pitches (54 strikes). He's had two good outings and two poor starts since joining the Athletics' rotation at the start of June. The 25-year-old is now at a 4.71 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 13:10 K:BB through 21 innings this season. With a weak offense to support him and a lack of dominant command, Medina offers minimal upside in fantasy outside of favorable matchups. He'll have one of those in his next start, which is projected to be on the road versus the Angels. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:09 pm

    • Luis Medina holds Royals to one run in win
Luis Medina allowed one run with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Medina put together a solid start against the Royals, holding them to one run into the sixth inning. He tossed four scoreless frames before Bobby Witt Jr. brought a run in to score on a double in the fifth. Medina recorded the first two outs in the sixth and exit with one runner on base. He struck out three. The 25-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.71 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 13/10 K/BB ratio across 21 innings. He’ll take on the Angels in Anaheim on Monday. • Records first save
Brewer worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants.

Advice: Brewer just returned from the injured list last week and he's possibly already moved up the bullpen hierarchy. Regular closer Hector Neris has allowed seven earned runs over his last three appearances with two blown saves, including in Monday's contest. The veteran Neris may have simply been getting some rest, and there's been no official word that the team is making a change, but this is a situation worth monitoring. Brewer would, of course, see a jump in fantasy value if he starts getting regular save opportunities. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:30 pm
    • Brewers designate Elieser Hernandez for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Elieser Hernandez for assignment.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler was signed to an MLB contract earlier this month, but he already finds himself on the outs after registering a solid 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio over six innings with the ballclub. There’s a decent chance that he generates interest on waivers. Bradley Blalock was recalled from Double-A Biloxi in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:36 pm
