    • Frankie Montas surrenders four runs vs. Padres
Frankie Montas was charged for four runs in six innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: This could have gone a lot worse. Montas gave up all four runs in the first two innings, but he was effective enough to give Cincinnati — and fantasy managers — six innings despite allowing nine hits in the contest. The right-hander has been shaky at best for Cincinnati over the first third of the season with a 4.64 ERA over nine starts as evidence. He’ll try and lower that mark next week against the Cardinals. • Andrew Heaney allows nine hits, three earned
Andrew Heaney gave up four runs — three earned — over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: Heaney allowed nine hits in the contest, and he also allowed two walks with just one strikeout. The southpaw has not been able to complete four innings in his last two starts, and he’s seen his ERA increase to 4.69 over his 10 starts. Heaney would be in danger of losing his rotation spot if the Rangers rotation was remotely healthy, but it’s not, so he’ll remain a shaky fantasy option for the next few turns. • Tyler Rogers gets first save of 2024 vs. Pirates
Tyler Rogers hurled a scoreless ninth to pick up a save Thursday against the Pirates.

Advice: That’s the first save for Rogers, and with Camilo Doval locked into the closing role, it’s very likely his last for a while. The 33-year-old has a 2.22 ERA, eight holds and a 0.97 WHIP over his 26 appearances for the Giants in 2024. Rotoworld Today, 12:44 pm
    • Slated for bulk relief
Alexander is in line to serve as a bulk reliever in Friday's game versus the Royals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Alexander carried a perfect game into the eighth inning of his last outing in Toronto as a traditional starter, but he's slated to follow opener Shawn Armstrong on Friday. The left-hander holds a 5.06 ERA in six traditional starts and a 5.40 ERA in bulk relief this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:32 pm
    • Will be opener Friday
Armstrong will serve as an opener for Friday's game against the Royals, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: The right-hander will be first into the game before handing things off to Tyler Alexander, who is slated to handle the bulk of the innings. It will be the fourth opener assignment this season for Armstrong, who has allowed four runs (three earned) with an 8:2 K:BB over four innings in the first three outings. Rotowire.com Today, 12:26 pm
    • Tyler Alexander will be bulk reliever on Friday
Tyler Alexander will serve as a bulk reliever on Friday against the Royals.

Advice: Shawn Armstrong will start the game but then Alexander will take over for bulk work. It’s not a bad change for Alexander since coming in as the bulk reliever doesn’t require him to pitch five innings in order to qualify for the win. It’s a role we saw Ryan Yarbrough thrive in with the Rays in the past and makes Alexander an intriguing streamer in deeper formats. Rotoworld Today, 12:25 pm
    • Tigers call up Mason Englert
Tigers recalled RHP Mason Englert from Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Englert will take Alex Lange’s spot in the bullpen. The 24-year-old has been solid in Triple-A with a 2.35 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 23 innings while striking out 34 and walking nine. He has not yet been able to carry that success over to the major-league level but perhaps now is the time. Rotoworld Today, 12:01 pm
    • Tigers option reliever Alex Lange to minors
Tigers optioned RHP Alex Lange to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Lange was publicly chewed out by his manager A.J. Hinch on the mound during Wednesday’s game and despite Hinch claiming that had nothing to do with the demotion, we find that hard to believe. Going into Wednesday’s game, Lange had allowed just four earned runs in his previous 14 appearances. His command will certainly come and go, and it had been poor in the last three appearances, but the 28-year-old only has two bad outings all season. This feels like a situation that is heading for a break-up and if Lange is able to find his way onto a team that can improve his command, he still has a future as a solid reliever. • Optioned to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Lange to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Advice: A day after allowing four earned runs in one inning during Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Lange will be sent to Triple-A in order to get back on track. The 28-year-old owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.77 WHIP alongside a 21:17 K:BB through 18.2 innings this season, and he figures to return to Detroit's bullpen once he starts turning in promising results with Toledo. In the meantime, Mason Englert will come up from Triple-A to take Lange's place. Rotowire.com Today, 11:57 am
