    • Vaughn Grissom unlikely to return this weekend
Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Thursday that it’s unlikely Grissom will return this weekend, but added that he’s getting close to making his season debut. The 23-year-old infielder figures to take over as Boston’s everyday second baseman upon arrival. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm

    • Red Sox make Ceddanne Rafaela everyday shortstop
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Thursday that Ceddanne Rafaela is their new everyday shortstop.

Advice: There was some hesitation earlier this month from the Red Sox about potentially moving Rafaela back to shortstop in the wake of Trevor Story’s season-ending shoulder injury. However, they’ve officially made the move in part to shore up their lackluster middle infield defense and also get Wilyer Abreu’s hot bat into the lineup more often in a corner outfield spot. It’ll be Jarren Duran taking over in center field everyday until further notice. It’s a significant development for fantasy purposes as Rafaela gains middle infield eligibility, which gives him some additional appeal from a roster construction standpoint, even in shallow mixed leagues. • Mariners place J.P. Crawford (oblique) on 10-day IL
Mariners placed SS J.P. Crawford on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 24, with a right oblique strain.

Advice: Crawford was pulled from the starting lineup on Wednesday after he experienced discomfort in warmups and now will be sidelined for at least the next week or so. The 29-year-old was starting to get in a rhythm at the plate going 7-for-21 (.333 AVG) with four RBI in his past five games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:21 am

    • Headed to IL with oblique strain
The Mariners placed Crawford on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain.

Advice: Crawford was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's loss to the Rangers, and subsequent testing revealed that he was dealing with an oblique strain. Grade 1 is the least severe type of strain, so it's possible that Crawford's stint on the IL won't be a lengthy one. Dylan Moore will make his second straight start at shortstop Thursday and is expected to serve as the primary replacement for Crawford during his upcoming absence. • Held out again Thursday
Crawford (oblique) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rangers.

Advice: Crawford had to be scratched from Wednesday's lineup with right oblique soreness and now will miss a second straight start. Infielder Leonardo Rivas has joined the Mariners on their taxi squad, per Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM, so it would appear possible that Crawford will require a stint on the injured list. Dylan Moore is handling shortstop Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:29 am

    • Declared everyday shortstop
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Rafaela is the team's everyday shortstop at this point, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Cora has said as much through his actions -- giving Rafaela a sixth straight start at shortstop Thursday -- and now he has confirmed it with his words. Rafaela's defense both at shortstop and in center field is considered plus, and using him at shortstop with Trevor Story (shoulder) out for the season frees up the team's outfield log jam. With Rafaela settling in at shortstop, Wilyer Abreu has become an everyday player in the outfield, making 10 straight starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:55 am

    • Activation this weekend unlikely
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Grissom (hamstring) is getting close to being activated but is unlikely to be back this weekend, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Grissom has played six rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, and he was at second base for the last three of them. The Red Sox have an off day Monday before beginning a series with the Giants at home Tuesday, and that could be the day the club is targeting for Grissom's season and team debut. • Bat wakes up Wednesday
Judge went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the A's.

Advice: Joe Boyle appeared to have struck Judge out in the second inning but was charged with a balk on the third strike instead, and the Yankees slugger made him pay by crushing his next pitch over the fence in right field. Judge had gone just 4-for-31 (.129) over the prior eight games without a long ball, so the reprieve may have been just what he needed to kick things into gear. On the season, he's slashing .191/.319/.383 with four homers and 13 RBI through 25 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:51 am
    • Collects ninth steal
Caballero went 1-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Tigers.

Advice: The shortstop continues to make an impact on the basepaths. Caballero has gone 4-for-4 on steal attempts over the last six games, and on the season he sports a .272/.302/.432 slash line with two homers, nine stolen bases, 11 runs and 11 RBI in 23 contests.
