    • Jared Jones strikes out ten over seven scoreless
Jared Jones tossed seven shutout innings with ten strikeouts in a no-decision against the Rockies on Saturday.

Advice: There were some concerns over Jones’ velocity his last time out. He looked just fine on Saturday, shutting down the Rockies over seven innings. He was back up to 97.6 mph on the fastball, generating 17 whiffs to strike out ten batters. Jones allowed just one baserunner on the day, a double by Elias Díaz in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old right-hander will take an outstanding 2.63 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and a 52/5 K/BB ratio across 41 innings into a start against the Cubs in Pittsburgh on Friday. • Cristian Javier (neck) throws 68 pitches in rehab start
Cristian Javier (neck) made his first minor league rehab start at Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, giving up three runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander walked a pair while striking out three batters in the contest. He threw 68 pitches in the game, 39 of those for strikes. There had been speculation that he would require just one rehab start before returning to the Astros’ rotation next week, we’ll see if that holds after how Saturday’s outing went. • Nico Hoerner homers, steals base in win Saturday
Nico Hoerner went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base in a 6-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Hoerner put the Cubs on the board right away, taking Tobias Myers deep for a solo homer to lead off the first inning, his first homer of the season. He added a base hit to lead off the seventh, then stole second for his fifth steal of the season. The 26-year-old second baseman is heating up at the plate, with multiple hits in three of his last four games. Hoerner is slashing .286/.364/.397 with 20 runs scored and eight RBI across 143 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 2:02 pm

    • Quality start in no-decision
Lorenzen allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters in six innings during Friday's loss to the Royals. He didn't factor into the decision.

Advice: Despite allowing a fair amount of traffic on the bases, Lorenzen was able to keep the Royals' bats quiet for six innings outside of a fifth-inning solo home run off the bat of Hunter Renfroe. Lorenzen now sports a 3.52 ERA through across 23 innings through his first four starts, and he should have an opportunity to stay hot as he faces the A's in Oakland on Wednesday. • Saddled with first loss
Bibee (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Angels after giving up six earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four batters across five innings.

Advice: Coming off an incredible seven-inning shutout performance against Atlanta in his last start, Bibee turned in one of his worst performances of the season against an injury-riddled Angels lineup. He gave up a solo homer to Nolan Schanuel in the third inning before allowing four more runs to score in the fifth, capped off by a three-run shot from Mickey Moniak. Bibee now owns a 4.46 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through his first seven starts, and he'll have another chance to get back in the win column Wednesday against Detroit. Rotowire.com Today, 7:36 am

    • Fighting slump
Seager went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 7-1 loss to Kansas City.

Advice: Seager delivered the Rangers' lone run with a single in the third inning. He's been mired in a slump and entered Friday's game batting .073 (3-for-41) with two RBI over the previous 11 games. Rangers general manager Chris Young took the long view when speaking with Kenndi Landry of MLB.com, indicating the club expected Seager to need some time to get going after undergoing hernia surgery in January. Young also feels there has been some bad luck, which speaks to the shortstop's .269 BABIP. Rotowire.com Today, 6:57 am

    • Goes yard again
Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in Friday's win over Arizona.

Advice: Cronenworth smacked a 398-foot home run off Slade Cecconi in the fourth inning to give him his third homer in five games. The Padres first baseman also extended his hit streak to seven games, batting .370 (10-for-27) during that time. Cronenworth has started the season on a tear, slashing .279/.353/.516 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored over 142 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:14 pm

    • Cruises to win
Gray (4-1) allowed three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the White Sox.

Advice: Gray allowed just one extra-base hit and retired the final eight batters he faced. He's been excellent since returning from a brief stint on the injured list to begin the year; Gray has given up just three earned runs through 30.1 innings while producing a 38:5 K:BB. He's turned in four straight quality starts after throwing five shutout frames in his 2024 debut. Gray's next start is lined up to be at home against the Mets. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:34 pm
    • Jake Cronenworth homer helps Padres top D-Backs
Jake Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles in a victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: Cronenworth swatted one of three homers for the Padres on Friday, with his being a solo shot off Slade Cecconi. Cronenworth has shown solid power to begin the 2024 season, as he’s up to six homers, nine doubles and a .516 slugging percentage through 122 at-bats. It’s certainly understandable to be skeptical considering that the 30-year-old hasn’t slugged above .400 over the last two seasons, but the results are awfully promising right now.
