• Hits 11th homer
Smith went 1-for-5 with a solo home run against Colorado in Thursday's 5-3 victory.

Advice: Smith hit one of three Los Angeles long balls Thursday, bashing a 451-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. It was the catcher's 11th home run of the campaign, which leads NL backstops. Across the majors, only three catchers have more homers than Smith this season, and only two (Adley Rutschman and William Contreras) have topped Smith's 45 RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:29 pm

The 38-year-old has found the fountain of youth in June, going 20-for-55 (.364) with four homers, five doubles, 15 RBI, 10 runs and a couple of steals through 16 games this month. • Blows save, earns win
Fairbanks (2-3) blew a save but earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base created a save situation. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged Fairbanks for a game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed in to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win Thursday. • Allows five earned runs in loss
Castillo (6-8) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Advice: Castillo entered the fifth with a 3-2 lead, but with two outs a walk preceded a home run by Andres Gimenez, then another walk paved the way for a Josh Naylor double that saddled Castillo with five runs allowed and left him on the hook for the loss. Following Castillo's start June 2, he was on a 10-game stretch of allowing no more than two earned runs. However, his last three starts have been more of a mixed bag, as he's allowed 12 earned runs over his last 16 innings (6.75 ERA) including five runs allowed in two of his last three starts. He'll look to put things back together during his next start, scheduled to take place next week when the Mariners travel to Tampa to take on the Rays. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:08 pm
  • Lugo allows two runs in no-decision on Thursday
Seth Lugo allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 3-2 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Lugo gave up six hits, walked three and struck out eight. He allowed a two-run game-tying home run to Zack Gelof in the seventh inning, but it was still another solid effort from Lugo. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Marlins at home next week.

  • Carlos Santana homers, gets three hits in loss
Carlos Santana went 3-for-5 with a homer in a loss to the Rays on Thursday in extra-innings.

Advice: Santana’s homer made it 6-3 in the ninth, and Minnesota scored three more runs to take the game into extras before falling. The 38-year-old has gone deep 12 times, and while he hasn’t helped much in the average category (.247), he’s been a solid power-producer; particularly since scuffling over the first three weeks. • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win. Fairbanks is still likely to see save chances going forward even with a fair share of clunkers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:28 pm
