• Falls to Yankees
Castillo (4-6) took the loss Thursday against the Yankees, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Castillo dealt with traffic for most of his outing, he'd ultimately hold New York to a pair of solo home runs. The loss snapped a stretch of seven straight quality starts for Castillo -- he'd posted a 2.01 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.31 this season with a 1.21 WHIP and 69:18 K:BB over 65.1 innings. Castillo's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Astros in his next start. • Luis Castillo allows two over five in defeat
Luis Castillo went five innings while surrendering two runs in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Castillo allowed seven hits with three walks, and he struck out three. There was significant traffic throughout the outing, but the right-hander’s only runs allowed came on solo homers by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. This makes back-to-back starts where Castillo hasn’t had his best stuff, but he was able to battle to hold powerful lineups in the Yankees and Orioles in check. He’s scheduled to face Houston on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:21 pm

  • TJ Friedl hopes to take batting practice soon
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, TJ Friedl (broken thumb) “continues to progress” and hopes to take “batting practice soon.”

Advice: TJ Friedl is back to hitting off flips as he works back from a broken thumb. Once he is able to take batting practice, his next step will likely be live at-bats and a rehab assignment. It’s possible that he could be back around mid-June but it will depend on how his thumb feels while taking live swings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 am

  • Hitting flipped pitches
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list. • Sitting for second time in series
Haniger is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Haniger will hit the bench for the second time in the series, and he could find himself in more of a part-time role or short-side platoon role moving forward after the Mariners recently welcomed Dominic Canzone back from the injured list. With Canzone and the hot-hitting Luke Raley having made cases for regular roles in the corner outfield, Mitch Garver could represent Haniger's primary competition for playing time at designated hitter. Haniger has turned in an underwhelming .587 OPS in May and is slashing .217/.280/.361 overall on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:22 am

  • Homers in third straight
McMahon went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over Oakland.

Advice: McMahon went hitless in his first four at-bats before adding a single in the ninth and a two-run homer in the top of the 12th, which would end up being the game winner. It marked the third baseman's third consecutive game with a home run, and he's now up to five long balls in May to go along with 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. McMahon has also hit safely in 10 straight games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:29 am

  • Career day against Milwaukee
Luzardo (2-3) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing three hits and no walks with four strikeouts across eight scoreless innings against the Brewers.

Advice: Luzardo completed eight innings for the first time in his career, blanking Milwaukee in dominant fashion. All three hits allowed were singles and he didn't issue a walk for a second straight start. The southpaw retired 17 consecutive batters during the start, spanning the second to the eighth inning. He's been excellent in three starts since coming off the IL, owning a 0.92 ERA and a 19:1 K:BB over 19.2 innings. He'll look to keep the ball rolling Tuesday against the Padres. • Another two-homer game
Soto went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Mariners.

Advice: This was Soto's second multi-homer game in the last five contests. He's gone 8-for-19 (.421) with six RBI and seven runs scored over that span. The star outfielder continues to fit right in with the Yankees, slashing .313/.409/.569 with 13 homers, 40 RBI, 37 runs scored, four stolen bases, nine doubles and a triple over his first 51 games with the team.
