• Outrighted to Triple-A
The Yankees outrighted Andrews to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Advice: It's the second time since April that Andrews has been outrighted after departing the Yankees' 40-man roster. Whether he accepts the assignment and remains in the organization or elects free agency is not yet known. Rotowire.com Today, 6:33 am
  • Starts rehab assignment
Quijada (elbow) struck out the side in his first rehab appearance with the Angels' Arizona Complex League affiliate Wednesday.

Advice: It's a promising start as Quijada continues down the comeback trail from last May's Tommy John surgery. The left-hander will eventually move up to a higher affiliate and figures to need most, if not all, of his allotted 30 days during his rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 6:27 am

  • Beginning rehab assignment
Ferrer (shoulder) was sent to the Nationals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Thursday to begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: Ferrer has been out all season with a strain of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder but has finally been cleared for game action. The lefty's rehab assignment should be fairly lengthy given how much time he's missed, and he's not a given to be added to the major-league roster once his time on the 60-day injured list is over. • Clean ninth inning
Chapman struck out two without allowing a baserunner across a scoreless ninth inning against the Reds on Wednesday.

Advice: Chapman entered the game in the ninth inning with a five-run lead, marking his first appearance since Saturday. He struggled to begin the season but has pitched well for significant stretches, most recently allowing two earned runs across 8.2 innings in June while posting a 13:4K:BB. Chapman should see most of Pittsburgh's save chances while David Bednar (oblique) is sidelined. Rotowire.com Today, 6:11 am
  • Heads back to minors
The Pirates optioned Bruihl to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Advice: Bruihl made one appearance during his most recent stint in the majors, allowing two runs while recording just one out. The Pirates are expected to activate Martin Perez (groin) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move prior to Friday's series opener in Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 6:09 am
  • Matt Manning working on delivery at Triple-A
Matt Manning was not called up when the Tigers needed a starter this week because he’s working on tweaking his delivery at Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: “Matty is still working on delivery,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “He’s still working on execution. There are plenty of things that we still want him to do.” One of those things is likely getting left-handed hitters out. Between MLB and Triple-A action combined, left-handed hitters are hitting .304 off Manning with a .893 OPS. The 26-year-old has a 4.88 ERA with 12 walks and 23 strikeouts across 27⅔ innings in five appearances for the Tigers this season and a 5.68 ERA with 13 walks and 42 strikeouts across 38 innings in eight games for the Mud Hens. “We also want the guys down in Triple-A to not assume, as well,” said Hinch. “You gotta give opportunity to guys that you feel good about. It’s not just one person because we’re used to it. He’s still got to earn his way like everybody else.” It sounds like Manning still has work to do before he earns another chance. • Fans seven in no-decision
Wesneski did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk over four innings while striking out seven.

Advice: Wesneski got off to a solid start, striking out four of the first six batters he faced before surrendering back-to-back home runs to Michael Conforto and David Villar in the second. The right-hander would go 1-2-3 through the next two innings before being relieved by Drew Smyly to open the fifth, though the former would still finish with his second-highest strikeout total of the season. It also marked Wesneski's longest outing since May 8 against the Padres when he went six innings. Rotowire.com Today, 6:03 am
  • Hayde Wesneski strikes out seven in no-decision
Hayden Wesneski surrendered three runs with seven strikeouts over four innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: All three of the runs Wesneski allowed came on a pair of homers in the second inning. With a runner on, Michael Conforto took him deep for a two-run shot to put the Giants on the board. David Villar followed with a solo shot to go back-to-back. Wesneski retired all six batters in the third and fourth innings before his day was done. He struck out seven. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 44/16 K/BB ratio across 45 innings. He’ll likely revert to the bullpen for long relief duties. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:13 pm
  • Decent in loss
Elder (1-3) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over six innings, but he took the loss in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals.

Advice: Elder turned in his second quality start of the season while stepping in for a spot start. This was his first big-league outing since May 19, but it's expected he'll return to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday after being appointed the 27th man for Wednesday's twin bill. He has a 5.76 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB over 29.2 innings across six starts in the majors this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:42 pm
