• Jackson Holliday (elbow) returns off injured list
Oriole INF prospect Jackson Holliday was reinstated off the seven-day injured list by Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Holliday missed 10 days while dealing with inflammation in his elbow. The 20-year-old top prospect will be back in the lineup, but only as a designated hitter for the time being. If Holliday performs well, he still has a chance to return to Baltimore before the 2024 season comes to an end. Rotoworld Today, 11:06 am

  • Working out in outfield
Bliss tracked flyballs in left field during batting practice prior to Monday's game versus the Rays, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Bliss has played only second base and shortstop since entering pro ball and starts at those spots figure to be few and far between with J.P. Crawford holding down shortstop and Jorge Polanco (hamstring) back off the injured list to cover second base. The Mariners elected to keep Bliss on the roster after Polanco's activation, so perhaps they will give him some reps in the outfield. Bliss has acquitted himself well during his first go-round in the majors in slashing .265/.345/.429 over 21 contests. Rotowire.com Today, 9:12 am

  • In line for more work
Short went 0-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's loss to St. Louis.

Advice: Orlando Arcia left the game in the sixth inning complaining of dizziness, and Short took over at shortstop and as the No. 9 hitter. It was his first game action since June 5, and with Arcia likely to get at least Tuesday's game off, the 29-year-old utility infielder should pick up his first start since May 25. Short's .150/.320/.200 slash line in 50 plate appearances since joining Atlanta suggests he won't be much more than a DFS punt play, however. Rotowire.com Today, 6:44 am

  • Knocks in two as PH
Gonzalez entered as a pinch hitter and delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning of Monday's 7-6 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Gonzalez was part of a four-run uprising in the eighth that set up Boston's walk-off win. After he was sent up to pinch hit for Dominic Smith against a lefty, Toronto countered with a righty reliever, and Gonzalez delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single to tie the game. He took over at first base for the final frame. Gonzalez has served in the short side of a platoon at second base since being activated off the injured list a little more than a week ago. He's also filled in at multiple positions whenever needed. Rotowire.com Today, 5:59 am

  • Gets aboard three times
Ahmed went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Monday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.

Advice: The homer was Ahmed's first of the season. The shortstop has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with two RBI and one stolen base over six contests since he returned from a wrist injury that sidelined him for a month. Ahmed is slashing .250/.291/.323 with 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and one steal through 136 plate appearances. He hasn't been strictly limited to a short-side platoon role since his return, but Brett Wisely is seeing a majority of the reps at shortstop and is also hitting a solid .262 in June. • Nick Ahmed hits first homer, walks twice in win
Nick Ahmed hit his first homer and walked twice as the Giants came back to beat the Cubs 5-4 on Monday.

Advice: The second walk was key as the Giants scored three times to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. The winning run also came on a walk, that to Wilmer Flores after Heliot Ramos was intentionally walked to load the bases. Both Ahmed and Flores appeared to have strikes ruled balls by umpire Ramon De Jesus during their plate appearances, but it doesn’t matter much at this point. Ahmed’s homer off Justin Steele was his first since June 10, 2023. He’s taking a backseat to Brett Wisely against right-handers at the moment, but he’ll continue to start at shortstop versus lefties. • Aledmys Díaz goes 0-for-3 against Angels
Aledmys Díaz went 0-for-3 with a strikeout as Oakland’s No. 9 hitter Monday against the Angels.

Advice: The A’s got ridiculously lucky that someone took Jace Peterson off their hands last summer, so they’ll keep giving Díaz the occasional start in the hopes that lightning will strike twice. The 33-year-old Díaz is 3-for-27 since returning from a calf injury on May 28. He hit .229/.280/.337 last year in the first season of a two-year, $14.5 million contract. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:37 pm

  • Gabriel Arias ejected from game in ninth
Gabriel Arias was ejected from Monday’s game in the ninth inning for arguing balls and strikes.

Advice: Arias brought up the strike two pitch with umpire Jeremy Riggs after swinging and missing at strike three and was thrown out, even though he didn’t seem to say much at all. Arias had a double and a run scored in four at-bats on the night. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:07 pm

  • Taking seat against lefty
Lopez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Lopez and fellow left-handed hitters Gavin Sheets and Andrew Benintendi will hit the bench as the White Sox go with an all-right-handed-hitting lineup versus Dodgers southpaw James Paxton. Danny Mendick will replace Lopez at second base and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:29 pm
