    • Takes loss Friday
Thompson (3-3) allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings, picking up the loss to Oakland on Friday.

Advice: Thompson got the final out of the seventh inning of a tie game then was the pitcher of record when the Diamondbacks took the lead. Usually, that means game over -- Thompson holds the lead then Paul Sewald closes it -- but that was not the case Friday. Thompson, who had allowed just four runs over 32 innings and leads Arizona with 11 holds, was roughed up in the eighth. He told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that he couldn't make the adjustments needed to avoid throwing very hittable strikes. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
    • Zac Gallen (hamstring) starting Saturday vs. A’s
Zac Gallen (hamstring) will start on Saturday against the Athletics.

Advice: Arizona manager Torey Lovullo confirmed late Friday that Gallen will take the ball for Saturday’s showdown against the Athletics after making it through a bullpen session earlier this week without any issues just a couple days after tossing a 67-pitch simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been out since suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain back on May 30. It’s obviously an extremely favorable matchup for fantasy purposes and there shouldn’t be any limitations from a workload standpoint for Gallen in his return from the injured list. • Takes tough loss Friday
Miller (4-6) allowed three runs on three hits across an inning of work and took the loss Friday against the Angels. He struck out two.

Advice: Miller allowed two hits but had a chance to escape the eighth inning with no damage before he allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Logan O'Hoppe. The veteran righty had been pitching well this month with a 2.25 ERA across seven appearances, so this likely is just a blip on the radar. However, Miller does now have a subpar 4.62 ERA overall, which he'll work on lowering in the coming weeks. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago
    • Effective in team debut
Lopez worked around a hit to toss a scoreless inning of relief in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Lopez had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa before the game, and he proceeded to make his team debut right away. The righty was dumped by the Mets earlier this year, and he struggled to a 5.95 ERA last season with three different teams, but he was an effective reliever as recently as 2022. If Lopez can get back to that form with the Cubs, he could establish a regular role in their bullpen. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
    • Marlins outright Kent Emanuel to Triple-A
Marlins sent LHP Kent Emanuel outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Emanuel went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 32-year-old lefty has made five relief appearances this season for the Marlins. Rotoworld Today, 5:54 am

    • D-backs recall Humberto Castellanos on Friday
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Castellanos received the call to rejoin Arizona’s relief mix for Friday’s showdown against the Athletics. The 26-year-old righty made one relief appearance earlier this months in mop-up duty. Rotoworld Today, 5:50 am
    • D-backs option Scott McGough back to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Scott McGough to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: McGough was shipped back to the minors ahead of Friday’s game against the Athletics after compiling an underwhelming 7.33 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 20/18 K/BB ratio across 27 innings (22 appearances, two starts) this season. Rotoworld Today, 5:49 am

    • Poor in no-decision
Cecconi allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over four innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Friday.

Advice: Cecconi pitched six times in June, but he completed five innings just once. While he had just one truly awful start in that span, he allowed a total of 15 runs over 25 innings, albeit with a tantalizing 26:3 K:BB. Cecconi is at a 5.81 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 48:11 K:BB through 57.1 innings over 12 appearances (11 starts). He's tentatively projected for a road start versus the Dodgers next week. • Bounces back with quality start
Sears allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Sears had been tagged for 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his previous two starts. He bounced back Friday, turning in his second quality start over five appearances in June, though he wasn't able to snap a six-start winless skid. The southpaw is now at a 5.00 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 62:29 K:BB over 90 innings through 17 starts. Sears hasn't displayed much upside and isn't likely to get much support in most games, making him a risky fantasy play. He's projected for a home start versus the Angels his next time out.
