• Resuming activities Monday
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomcyzk said Friday that Hayes (back) will resume baseball activities Monday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The plan is for Hayes to play catch and field grounders Monday before progressing to swinging a bat Tuesday. Hayes landed on the injured list last weekend with a back injury which had been nagging at him for a while, but it sounds like he's feeling better after a little rest. He could have a shot to make it back before the end of the month if all goes well. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
  • DJ LeMahieu (foot) starts rehab Friday
DJ LeMahieu (foot) will start his minor league rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Somerset.

Advice: LeMahieu has been on the injured list since the beginning of the season with a fractured foot. He could be activated by the Yankees as long as he doesn’t suffer another setback. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Starting to heat up in Vegas
Noda is 5-for-13 with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, three walks and four runs over his last four games with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The brief but impressive stretch is in stark contrast to the first eight games following Noda's demotion, when he posted an .083 average across 37 plate appearances. The 28-year-old, who limped to a .128 average and .440 OPS during his 30 games in the majors to open the season, could soon earn himself a call back to the big-league club if he can keep his hot bat going for an extended period. • Makes splash in minors return
Butler, optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, made his minor-league debut in Thursday's win over El Paso and went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs.

Advice: Butler drew the start in center field in his first minor-league game of 2024 and made an instant impact while working out of the No. 2 spot in the order. Butler had a much different experience against big-league arms (.170/.273/.264), so he'll presumably need to have an extended stretch of success at the Triple-A level to earn a promotion. • Knocks in three in rehab debut
Andujar (knee) opened Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Thursday as the designated hitter, going 2-for-3 with a three-run double.

Advice: Andujar was lifted for a pinch hitter late in the game, but his timing at the plate appeared to be in fine form despite his extended layoff. The multi-hit effort was reminiscent of the red-hot spring Andujar enjoyed before it was cut short by his knee injury, and the veteran may not need an inordinately long rehab assignment if he continues to wield a hot bat for the Aviators. • Grabbing seat Friday
Suzuki is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Pirates.

Advice: Suzuki homered Wednesday in Atlanta but is just 6-for-26 at the dish since returning from the injured list. With Paul Skenes on the hill for the Pirates on Friday, a day off for Suzuki makes sense. Cody Bellinger will shift over to right field while Pete Crow-Armstrong handles center and Mike Tauchman serves as the designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 8:37 am
  • Remains out with hamstring issue
Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Pirates.

Advice: It's the fourth straight game Hoerner has been out of the lineup due to tightness in his left hamstring. A stint on the injured list would seem to be a distinct possibility at this point given how much time Hoerner has missed, although there's been no indication from the Cubs yet that a move is coming. Miles Mastrobuoni and Nick Madrigal will again be tasked with middle infield duties for Chicago. Rotowire.com Today, 8:34 am

  • Happ moves into the No. 2 hole Friday
Ian Happ will bat second for the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: With Seiya Suzuki getting the day off, Happ will occupy the No. 2 spot in the order for the Cubs. He hit a solo home run on Thursday, but now draws a tough assignment against Pirates top pitching prospect Paul Skenes on Friday afternoon. Rotoworld Today, 8:33 am
  • Suzuki gets day off Friday
Seiya Suzuki is not in the Cubs lineup for Friday’s game against the Pirates.

Advice: Suzuki started and batted second against the Pirates on Thursday. Pete Crow-Armstrong will get to start in center with Cody Bellinger shifting to right field. Suzuki is hitting .282 with an .826 OPS this season. Rotoworld Today, 8:30 am
