    • J.D. Martinez batting fifth in Mets’ debut Friday
J.D. Martinez will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter in his Mets’ debut on Friday night against the Cardinals.

Advice: It took a bit longer than anticipated, but finally the Mets get to add the 36-year-old slugger to the middle of their lineup. He wound up playing in just two games during his time at Triple-A Syracuse, going 3-for-8 with a double. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats at this point. Remember, he slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 homers and 103 RBI in only 113 games for the Dodgers during the 2023 campaign. Rotoworld Today, 1:45 pm

    • Batting fifth in Mets debut
Martinez will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: It will be Martinez's Mets and season debut after he was sent to the minors for a while following a late-March signing. The 36-year-old will be given extra days off in the early going as he gets his feet under him, but Martinez will eventually be the team's everyday DH. He slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs for the Dodgers last season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:27 pm

    • Officially added to roster
The Mets recalled Martinez from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Advice: Martinez had his Mets debut delayed a bit by a minor back issue, but he's ready to go now following five tune-up games in the minors. The 36-year-old went 6-for-19 with two doubles and a 2:2 K:BB in those contests. Manager Carlos Mendoza has said Martinez will not play every day right away, as the club plans to ease him into things as he faces major-league pitching for the first time since last October. Eventually, he will be the team's everyday designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 11:38 am

    • Mets recall J.D. Martinez from Triple-A
Mets recalled J.D. Martinez from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Martinez will join the Mets’ active roster for their weekend series against the Cardinals after he went 3-for-8 with a double in two games at the Triple-A level. The 36-year-old slugger should bring some pop to New York’s offense. Rotoworld Today, 11:32 am

    • Will be eased into lineup
Martinez (back) won't play every day to begin his tenure with the Mets, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: "We're not going to DH him every day," manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday. "He's going to need some days [off]. I'll sit down with him to put together a game plan because he's important. He's too valuable for this team, and we've got to take care of him." Martinez is expected to make his debut for the Mets on Friday and hit fifth behind Pete Alonso, but the 36-year-old's workload for the first week or two could be a bit less than what patient fantasy investors were hoping for. • Impressive again Thursday
Yamamoto (2-1) earned the win over Washington on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six scoreless innings.

Advice: Despite a rough season debut, Yamamoto has thus far lived up to the billing that netted him a 12-year, $325 million contract in the offseason, as he's tossed a scoreless outing of at least five frames in half of his six starts so far. The Japanese hurler's outing Thursday was his second straight quality start and lowered his season ERA to 3.54. Yamamoto also holds a 1.07 WHIP and 37:6 K:BB through 28 innings. • Hitless as DH
Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:52 pm

    • Goes deep in loss
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss Seattle.

Advice: Lowe reached down for a slider low in the zone to blast his first home run of the season. The first baseman has played in all five games since being activated off the injured list last Saturday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:42 pm

    • José Ramírez drives in four in win over Red Sox
José Ramírez went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and a steal in a win over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Ramirez crushed a second-inning pitch from Chase Anderson 384 feet at 107.8 mph off the bat for his fifth home run of the season. He’s now slashing .260/.271/.471 on the season with 23 RBI and three steals. Ramirez has been hyper-aggressive this season, raising his chase rate and his overall swing rate by 10 percent. As a result, he has just a two percent walk rate and is making less hard contact than he did last year. He still makes an elite amount of contact, but you do have to wonder if the increased aggression will make it harder for him to reach that .280-.300 batting average that we’re used to seeing.
