    • Luis Gil dazzles over six scoreless vs. Twins
Luis Gil recorded six strikeouts over six shutout innings on Tuesday in a win over the Twins.

Advice: The breakout sensation of the 2024 campaign so far, Gil kept rolling on Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium, scattering one hit and three walks over six nearly-flawless frames against a talented Minnesota lineup. He’s emerged as an early AL Cy Young Award contender this season, allowing one earned run or fewer in seven consecutive starts since May 1. The 26-year-old righty won’t be able to sustain these sublime results long-term, but he’s rapidly evolved into a legitimate upper-echelon fantasy contributor, thanks to his ability to consistently miss bats and avoid hard contact. He’ll carry a microscopic 1.82 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 85/34 K/BB ratio across 69 1/3 innings (12 starts) into a challenging matchup on Sunday against the Dodgers. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:40 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) targeting midseason return
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) faced hitters last weekend in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium.

Advice: Kershaw is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation process from offseason shoulder surgery and appears likely to be ready for a midseason return to Los Angeles’ starting rotation mix. The 36-year-old southpaw should be ready for a two-inning simulated game at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga at some point this week. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:28 pm

    • Gerrit Cole strikes out five on Tuesday at AA
Gerrit Cole (elbow) struck out five over 3 1/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Somerset.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole will require “at least a few” rehab outings before making his season debut, but he looked extremely sharp in this one. The 33-year-old reigning AL Cy Young Award winner was reportedly sitting in the mid-to-upper 90’s with his fastball and threw 45 pitches (34 strikes). He’ll presumably make another rehab start this weekend and could return to New York’s starting rotation at some point in late June or early July. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:29 pm

    • Max Scherzer (thumb) throws simulated game Tuesday
Max Scherzer (thumb) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Scherzer, who has been dealing with a thumb issue during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery, threw roughly 40 pitches in his latest throwing session. The 39-year-old righty told reporters afterwards that he hopes to head out soon on another minor league rehab assignment. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but it’s not unrealistic to think he could return prior to the All-Star break. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:44 pm

    • Throws live batting practice
Scherzer (back/arm) threw a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's faced hitters since he had to be pulled off a rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm. Scherzer -- who initially went on the injured list as he recovered from offseason back surgery -- said after Tuesday's session that he's hoping his next step will be to make a rehab start. There remains no timetable for the 38-year-old return to the Rangers' rotation, but things are trending up. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:44 pm

    • Needs multiple rehab starts
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole (elbow) will require "at least a few" minor-league rehab starts before returning from the 60-day injured list, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Cole will make his first rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Somerset and is slated to throw 40-to-50 pitches in that outing. Assuming he adds around 10-to-15 pitches to each of his subsequent rehab starts, the righty would presumably require two additional outings at a minimum after Tuesday's appearance before slotting back into the Yankees rotation. With that in mind, Cole doesn't appear on track to make his 2024 Yankees debut until at least late June, provided he checks out fine physically during his rehab assignment. Cole is working his way back from nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:33 pm

    • Completes bullpen session
Scherzer (back/arm) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After throwing about 25 pitches during Saturday's session, Scherzer gave a thumbs-up when he arrived at the clubhouse Sunday. Depending on how he recovers and how his conversations with the training staff go, Scherzer could face live batters Monday. Scherzer could then resume a rehab assignment soon thereafter. • Earns another win
Bassitt (6-6) picked up the win Sunday, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings against the Pirates. He struck out seven.

Advice: Bassitt didn't seem to be held back at all after leaving his previous start with neck spasms, tossing 100 pitches Sunday and picking up his third straight victory. The 35-year-old has been part of the decision in all 12 of his starts this season and hasn't yielded more than three runs in an outing since April 26. During that stretch, Bassitt is 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA across 35.0 innings. He's scheduled to make his next appearance Friday at Oakland. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:50 pm

    • Works into seventh
Bello did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Bello cruised through the first four in allowing only two baserunners and finished the sixth inning in line for a quality start and the win. For the first time all year, Bello was called upon to go back out for the seventh, but after recording one out, he allowed the next two runners to reach base prior to being pulled, with both runners eventually coming around to score, adversely impacting his final line. It was only the second time this year that Bello has not been involved in the decision. His next opportunity to take the hill will likely come next weekend when Boston travels to Chicago to take on the White Sox. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:06 pm
