    • On base three times in loss
Abrams went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Mets.

Advice: The streaky leadoff hitter has drawn five free passes over the last three games, and over his last 20 contests Abrams is slashing a blistering .408/.512/.690 with three homers, five steals, 15 RBI and 18 runs. The peaks have outweighed the valleys so far in 2024 for the 23-year-old shortstop -- Abrams' .860 OPS is nearly a 150-point improvement on his .712 mark from last season. • Kerry Carpenter (back) making slow progress
Tigers manager AJ Hinch told reporters that Kerry Carpenter (back) continues to make progress and participate in baseball activities.

Advice: Hinch also noted that the progress is still slow for Carpenter as he works his way back from the lumbar injury that has sidelined the 26-year-old since the end of May. The outfielder will surely need a rehab assignment after missing over a month, but it’s feasible that Carpenter could help fantasy rosters and Detroit after the All-Star break. • Swipes ninth bag
Springer went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: The veteran outfielder extended his hitting streak to six games while pilfering his ninth bag of the year in nine attempts. Springer is batting .550 (11-for-20) with two doubles, three homers, four runs and 10 RBI during his heater, but he still has a long way to go climb out of his early-season hole -- his .641 OPS is well below his .824 career mark. • Tyler Kinley gets win in 10th inning
Tyler Kinley received a victory for pitching a scoreless 10th inning Monday against the Brewers.

Advice: Only the truly desperate for saves should be rostering Kinley, but he is the top option in the Colorado pen at the moment. The scoreless outing tonight was his fifth in a row, as he lowered his ERA to 8.02. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:19 pm
    • Daulton Varsho goes hitless versus Astros
Daulton Varsho went hitless in a seventh consecutive start Monday, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk against the Astros.

Advice: Varsho did get a hit off the bench Saturday, but he’s 1-for-28 with 13 strikeouts since June 19, dropping his average to .197. There’s too much homer and steal potential here to make Varsho droppable in fantasy leagues, but it’s tempting. Of course, he’s especially valuable in 6x6 leagues that include 280-foot flyouts as a category. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Swipes 14th bag
Abrams went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: The Nationals had only three hits on the afternoon, so while Abrams was busy on the basepaths, his efforts couldn't generate any offense. The 23-year-old shortstop had been slumping heading into June, but he wrapped up the month with a dazzling .373/.464/.663 slash line in 97 plate appearances, adding four of his 13 homers on the season and six of his 14 steals. • Fans 10 Sunday
Ryan allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Mariners. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Ryan got through four innings unscathed while racking up eight of his 10 strikeouts over that span. He found himself in some immediate trouble in the fifth after allowing a leadoff triple and wound up surrendering two runs in the inning following a pair of base knocks and a fielding error. Sunday was Ryan's second double-digit strikeout performance this season and his second straight outing without walking a batter. He's given up two runs or less in four of his last five starts, though that's only amounted to one win. The 28-year-old will carry an excellent 3.21 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 110:15 K:BB (103.2 innings) into a meeting with the ascending Astros over the weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:32 am

    • Fires two shutout innings
Kinley pitched two shutout innings Sunday against the White Sox, allowing zero hits and one walk while striking out one.

Advice: The 33-year-old worked around the ghost runner in both the 11th and 12th innings, allowing just a single baserunner on an intentional walk. Fellow reliever Jalen Beeks earned the win in the 14th inning, but Kinley remains the preferred closer despite owning an ugly 8.27 ERA on the year. Both relievers will be in the mix for saves moving forward as part of a volatile Rockies bullpen. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:15 pm
    • Joe Ryan strikes out 10 in no-decision vs. M’s
Joe Ryan recorded 10 strikeouts and was charged with two runs (one earned) over 5 2/3 innings on Sunday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Advice: Ryan delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, generating 16 swinging strikes - including 11 on his four-seam fastball alone - and finished with a near-elite 36 percent CSW. He gave up six hits and didn’t hand out a free pass, although he did hit a pair of batters as well. The 28-year-old upper-echelon fantasy contributor recorded his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season and will aim to keep the momentum going when he faces the Astros on Saturday in his penultimate outing prior to the All-Star break.
