    Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in Friday's win over Arizona.

    Advice: Cronenworth smacked a 398-foot home run off Slade Cecconi in the fourth inning to give him his third homer in five games. The Padres first baseman also extended his hit streak to seven games, batting .370 (10-for-27) during that time.   • Jake Cronenworth homer helps Padres top D-Backs
    Jake Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a homer and two doubles in a victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

    Advice: Cronenworth swatted one of three homers for the Padres on Friday, with his being a solo shot off Slade Cecconi. Cronenworth has shown solid power to begin the 2024 season, as he’s up to six homers, nine doubles and a .516 slugging percentage through 122 at-bats. It’s certainly understandable to be skeptical considering that the 30-year-old hasn’t slugged above .400 over the last two seasons, but the results are awfully promising right now.   • Vidal steals two bags, doubles twice in loss
    Vidal Bruján doubled twice and stole two bases in a loss to the Athletics on Friday.

    Advice: Bruján drove in the only run of the game for the Marlins in the ninth with a double off Lucas Erceg. The pair of two-baggers with a single now have Bruján slashing .298/.377/.447, and the swipes are his first of the season.   • Luis García Jr. hits three-run homer off bench
    Luis García Jr. delivered a three-run homer as a pinch-hitter and later walked Friday as the Nationals came back to beat the Blue Jays 9-3.

    Advice: García’s homer off Erik Swanson made it a 5-3 game in the eighth, and the Nationals kept piling on from there. García was on the bench against a lefty tonight, but it really seems like he should be a full-timer at this point.     Garcia went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays.

    Advice: The 23-year-old began the night on the bench with Yusei Kikuchi toeing the rubber for Toronto, but Garcia got the call to pinch hit for Trey Lipscomb in the seventh inning once the southpaw was out of the game. Garcia delivered, launching the first pitch he saw from Erik Swanson to straightaway center field to put the Nationals in the lead for good. The long ball was his second of the season, and the first pinch-hit blast of his career.     McMahon went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: The 29-year-old led off the sixth inning by hammering a Martin Perez changeup out of PNC Park completely and into the Allegheny River, becoming only the second Colorado player in history to accomplish the feat after Todd Helton back in 2001. Three of McMahon's five homers this year have come in the last eight games, and the power surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .319/.407/.513 with 13 runs and 19 RBI in 32 contests.   • Headed to San Diego
    The Marlins traded Arraez to the Padres on Friday in exchange for Dillon Head, Woo-suk Go, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

    Advice: It's not immediately clear how Arraez will fit into the Padres' lineup, as San Diego already has a strong infield unit that includes Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Manny Machado, but it's possible Arraez fills in as the Friars' primary designated hitter. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.372 across 148 plate appearances so far this season, and his departure from Miami leaves Vidal Brujan as the favorite to take over as the Marlins' main second baseman.   • Ryan McMahon goes 2-for-5, homers in win
    Ryan McMahon went 2-for-5 and hit his fifth homer Friday against the Pirates.

    Advice: Both hits were against a lefty in Martín Pérez. If McMahon were on a better team, he’d probably be a platoon player at this point, as he was bad against lefties in 2022 and even worse last season.   • Padres closing in on deal to acquire Luis Arraez
    Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Padres are finalizing a deal to acquire second baseman Luis Arraez from the Marlins.

    Advice: Passan notes that the Marlins will receive a package of three prospects and a relief pitcher in return for the two-time defending batting champion. The Padres already have a strong combo up the middle with Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts, so its likely that the plan is to play Arraez at either first base or third base.
