• To be investigated by MLB
Major League Baseball intends to open an investigation into a reported gambling situation involving Fletcher and bookmaker Mathew Bowyer, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Per Tisha Thompson of ESPN, Fletcher placed bets on multiple sports but did not bet on baseball. MLB allows players to bet on other sports, but doing so through illegal bookmakers such as Bowyer -- the same bookmaker used by Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara -- is prohibited and punishable at the discretion of the commissioner. Fletcher is currently not facing discipline but is expected to be investigated by Major League Baseball soon. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:06 pm

  • Joey Ortiz picks up three hits, three-run homer
Joey Ortiz hit a three-run homer while going 3-for-4 in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

Advice: Ortiz also doubled, with the only damper on the evening being a caught stealing. The former Baltimore top prospect has been a big part of Milwaukee’s success, as this is the fifth homer for the 25-year-old and he’s slashing .296/.397/.561 for good measure. It was understandable for those who were skeptical of Ortiz as a fantasy option coming into the year, but this is no longer all that small of sample. It’s time to take him seriously. • Making first start of 2024
Luciano is starting at shortstop and batting ninth in Friday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Luciano made his 2024 debut Tuesday against the Dodgers when he pinch hit for Mike Yastrzemski in the ninth inning. Luciano started the season with Triple-A Sacramento, posting a .266/.399/.344 line with one home run and 20 RBI over 158 plate appearances before being recalled by the Giants on May 14. The 22-year-old appeared in 14 games for San Francisco in 2023, going 9-for-39 with three doubles and a stolen base across 14 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:00 pm
  • Officially promoted
The Dodgers recalled Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Advice: Vargas has served as Oklahoma City's left fielder all season, slashing .302/.442/.590 with eight homers and 39 RBI across 181 plate appearances. The 24-year-old hasn't found the same success in the majors with a .640 OPS, but he could still draw starts in the outfield on days the Dodgers are matched up against a left-handed starter. James Outman was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:11 pm
  • Dodgers recall Miguel Vargas from Triple-A OKC
Dodgers recalled INF/OF Miguel Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: While the versatile 24-year-old saw most of his action in left field at the Triple-A level, the Dodgers have a sudden need at third base with Max Muncy (oblique) landing on the injured list on Friday. Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday however that Vargas will play left field while he’s with the big league club. Enrique Hernandez is starting at third base on Friday night and could wind up seeing additional action there. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:01 pm
  • Optioned to Sacramento
The Giants optioned Schmitt to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Schmitt will lose his spot on the big-league roster with Jorge Soler (shoulder) returning from the injured list Friday. Schmitt went just 3-for-22 and drove in one RBI during his brief stint in the majors, though he may return to San Francisco if the Giants need to rely on their organizational infield depth again later this season. • Jonathan India returns to Reds’ lineup on Friday
Jonathan India (migraine) returned to the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Dodgers.

Advice: India had missed each of the team’s previous two games due to migraines. He’s back in there at second base on Friday night and will bat leadoff against James Paxton and the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:37 pm
  • Giants option Casey Schmitt back to Triple-A
Giants optioned INF Casey Schmitt to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Once again, the 25-year-old infielder’s stay at the big league level was short-lived this time around. Schmitt went just 3-for-22 (.136) with one RBI and a 5/0 K/BB ratio in his six games with the Giants this time around. He’ll continue to bide his time at Triple-A until he’s called upon once more. • Homer, three RBI in win
Triolo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Triolo opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run shot off Kyle Hendricks before driving in a third run with a base hit in the fourth. It's the first multi-hit game since May 3 for Triolo -- he'd gone just 2-for-30 in his prior 10 contests. The 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .201/.291/.257 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 41 games this season. With Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) set to resume baseball activities early next week, Triolo could soon be headed back to a bench role. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:47 pm
