• Neris blows save, Cubs down Brewers in extras
Hector Neris blew his second save of the season in the Cubs’ win over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Advice: Neris entered the game with a 1-0 lead and recorded two outs to open the bottom of the ninth. He then ran into trouble when he walked Christian Yelich, only to later balk and move Yelich into scoring position. Willy Adames would later single with two strikes to drive in Yelich and for the game into extras. It’s just the second blown save of the season for Neris, who has managed to close things out when called upon despite a concerning 1.56 WHIP. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:01 pm
  • Hurt by home runs
Assad (4-1) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings.

Advice: Assad's final run line could've looked a lot better had it not been for two mistakes thrown to Paul Goldschmidt. He served up nearly identical two-run homers to Goldschmidt in the third and fifth innings to give the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish. Assad has now allowed multiple home runs in back-to-back starts while also walking eight batters over that span. The one positive to take away from Sunday's outing is he was able to tie his career-high with eight strikeouts and has 19 strikeouts over his last 15.2 innings. Assad will carry a 2.17 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 54:23 K:BB into his next matchup against the Reds this weekend. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:22 am

  • Javier Assad serves up two homers in loss Sunday
Javier Assad wasn’t at his best in Sunday night’s loss to the Cardinals, giving up four runs on five hits over his five innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander piled up eight strikeouts on the night while issuing three free passes. All of the damage done against him came on two bad pitches, that Paul Goldschmidt pulverized for a pair of two-run homers — one in the third inning and another in the fifth. Assad got seven swings and misses on 81 pitches on the night, registering a strong CSW of 35 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries his impressive 2.17 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 54/23 K/BB ratio (58 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Reds. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:20 pm

  • Nick Martinez gets win as bulk guy versus Dodgers
Nick Martinez got a win as a bulk guy after pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings versus the Dodgers on Sunday.

Advice: Martinez took over with two outs in the first and kept the Dodgers scoreless through the end of the fifth, earning him a much-deserved victory. He’s now 2-0 in three appearances as a bulk guy, as opposed to 0-3 as a starter or as a true reliever. If the Reds keep using him like this, he’ll be a decent enough play in mixed leagues. • Earns second win
Martinez (2-3) allowed one hit over 4.1 scoreless innings to earn the victory Sunday against the Dodgers. He struck out three.

Advice: Martinez followed Brent Suter, who faced three batters and served as the opener, tossing 64 pitches while working through the fifth to pick up his second victory of the season. Martinez has now earned both of his wins this season against the Dodgers in similar fashion. Ten days ago, Martinez worked five innings of relief and allowed one baserunner while earning the win in LA, then pulled off the same feat over 4.1 innings Sunday. With Nick Lodolo (groin) slated to return to the rotation Monday, Martinez looks primed to return to his usual long-relief role. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:01 pm

  • José Alvarado gives up game-tying homer to Rockies
José Alvarado took a blown save after giving up a game-tying homer to Jacob Stallings in the ninth inning Friday against the Rockies.

Advice: Alvarado has a couple of losses, but this is his first blown save to go along with nine saves and four holds. He’s still the clear favorite for saves in Philadelphia. Incredibly, he’s walked just two batters in his last 18 appearances, spanning 16 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 11:49 pm
  • Suffers first blown save
Alvarado blew the save Friday against the Rockies. He allowed one run on two hits and no walks over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Alvarado looked to be cruising to another save after striking out Jordan Beck and Hunter Goodman to start the bottom of the ninth inning. However, pinch hitter Jacob Stallings and his career .340 slugging percentage had different plans, crushing a 427-foot solo home run to hand Alvarado his first blown save in 2024. The flame-throwing lefty sports a 3.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:45 pm
  • Falls to Friars
Martinez (1-3) took the loss Wednesday as the Reds were downed 7-3 by the Padres, coughing up five runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Making his fifth start of the season, Martinez served up a leadoff homer to Luis Arraez that proved to be a bad omen for the rest of the game as he lasted only 66 pitches (40 strikes) before getting the hook. The right-hander has been volatile in a swingman role for Cincy, posting a 4.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 31:6 K:BB through 43 innings, but with Nick Lodolo (groin) set to rejoin the rotation Monday, Martinez should be headed back to the bullpen. • Nick Martinez gets clobbered in loss to Padres
Nick Martinez was clobbered in a losing effort against the Padres on Wednesday, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The right-hander punched out two batters on the evening while issuing one free pass. He served up a solo homer to Luis Arraez to begin the ballgame, then kept the Padres’ offense at bay until they scratched out a run in the fourth inning. The wheels fell off in the fifth though, as they tacked on three more while chasing Martinez from the game. The 33-year-old hurler got just four swings and misses on 66 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 18 percent. He’ll carry an uninspiring 4.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 31/6 K/BB ratio (43 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Cardinals. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:53 pm
