    • Merrill Kelly (shoulder) set to resume throwing
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Merrill Kelly (shoulder) will start a throwing program next week.

Advice: Kelly has been out since late April due to a right shoulder strain and is going to require several weeks of bullpen sessions and rehab starts before he’s an option for Arizona again. Rotoworld Today, 4:52 pm

    • Nearing throwing program
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Kelly (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing program next week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: The right-hander has apparently been progressing well in his recovery from a right shoulder strain and is now on the cusp of resuming baseball work. Kelly will require some time to build his arm up before progressing to mound work and eventually a rehab assignment, so he shouldn't be expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks until sometime in July. • Officially placed on injured list
The Pirates placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left groin strain.

Advice: Perez injured his groin while covering first base during Sunday's start against Atlanta. He initially remained in the game before eventually being pulled. It's not clear at this point how long the southpaw might be sidelined. Quinn Priester will likely be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Perez in the Pirates rotation. • Martin Pérez officially heads to IL with groin injury
Pirates placed LHP Martin Pérez on the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.

Advice: As expected, Pérez will miss at least two weeks while he deals with the groin injury that caused him to leave his start Sunday versus Atlanta. Pittsburgh didn’t add a pitcher as the corresponding transaction, but they’ll need to make a move to replace the southpaw in the rotation. Quinn Priester is likely that arm. Rotoworld Today, 10:55 am

    • Headed to injured list
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Tuesday in an interview with 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh that Perez (groin) will be placed on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Perez suffered a left groin injury during Sunday's start against Atlanta, and while the severity is unclear at the moment, it's evidently bad enough that the left-hander will be sidelined for at least a couple weeks. Quinn Priester looms as an obvious candidate to replace Perez in the Pittsburgh rotation. Perez's next turn will come up Sunday in Toronto. Rotowire.com Today, 9:21 am

    • Martin Pérez heading to IL with groin injury
Pirates manager Derek Shelton told reporters that Martin Pérez will be placed on the injured list with his groin injury.

Advice: Pérez left Sunday’s start against Atlanta with a left groin injury, and the southpaw will now miss at least a couple of weeks while he’s away from the team. There’s no word yet as to who will take Pérez’s place in the rotation, but Pittsburgh will have to add a new arm to the group over the weekend. Quinn Priester could make sense, as he pitched Sunday and would be on turn for Pérez’s spot. Rotoworld Today, 9:16 am

    • Takes first loss Monday
Walker (3-1) took the loss against San Francisco on Monday, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Advice: The positive is that Walker was able to complete six frames for the first time in his past three starts, but he was far from effective in doing so. The right-hander gave up a season-high nine hits, while the five earned runs were the most he's allowed since his season debut April 28. Despite Walker's adequate 3-1 record, he's been unimpressive with a 5.51 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 32.2 innings on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:28 pm
    • Falls to 2-3
Lynn (2-3) allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Reds.

Advice: All three runs against Lynn came in the first two innings but he was able to settle in to deliver a quality start. He's thrown six frames in each of his last two outings after failing to do so in his previous five starts. The veteran righty is 1-3 with a 4.39 ERA over his last five appearances. On the year, Lynn owns a 53:23 K:BB and a 3.45 ERA through 57.1 innings. His next start is expected to be in Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:39 pm

    • Lance Lynn delivers quality start in defeat
Lance Lynn yielded three runs — one earned — in six innings Monday in a loss to the Reds.

Advice: Lynn has lowered his ERA from 4.17 to 3.45 in his last two outings, partly because of some unearned runs. Unfortunately, simply keeping the Cardinals in games isn’t enough to generate wins right now, and Lynn is 2-3 in spite of a solid open. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:00 pm
