    • Completes 40-50 pitch bullpen
Gray (groin) threw 40-50 pitches during a bullpen, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reported Tuesday.

Advice: Gray becomes eligible to come off the 15-day IL on Friday, and while the next step in Gray's rehab should be announced soon, it's expected that he'll be available to return on or around that date. Once Gray is reinstated, Jose Urena will likely be pushed out of the rotation. Rotowire.com 2 minutes ago

    • Throws live batting practice
Scherzer (back/arm) threw a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's faced hitters since he had to be pulled off a rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm. Scherzer -- who initially went on the injured list as he recovered from offseason back surgery -- said after Tuesday's session that he's hoping his next step will be to make a rehab start. There remains no timetable for the 38-year-old return to the Rangers' rotation, but things are trending up. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Josiah Gray (elbow) throws simulated game Tuesday
Josiah Gray (elbow) threw a three-inning simulated game on Tuesday.

Advice: Gray got his pitch count up to 65 in his latest throwing session and is on track to kick-off a minor league rehab assignment later this week, barring something unexpected. The 26-year-old righty has been out since early April recovering from a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

    • Masataka Yoshida starting rehab assignment this weekend
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Tuesday that Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

Advice: Yoshida has been on the shelf since the start of May due to a left thumb strain, but managed to avoid surgery. The 30-year-old is going to need some time to get back up to speed in the minors before returning to Boston’s lineup mix at designated hitter. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • Cora: Chris Martin likely heading to IL on Tuesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Chris Martin could go on the injured list shortly.

Advice: No word yet on the specifics of the issue, but it sounds like Martin is headed to the injured list with reliever Zack Kelly on his way to Fenway Park from cross-state Triple-A Worcester. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Needs 'at least a few' rehab starts
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole (elbow) will require "at least a few" rehab starts before rejoining the major-league rotation, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Cole will make his first rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Somerset and is slated to throw 40-to-50 pitches in that outing. If you bake in a 15-to-20 pitch increase in subsequent rehab starts, the righty would presumably require, at minimum, two additional outings after Tuesday's appearance. That would mean Cole won't rejoin the Yankees at least until late June, and it's possible it will take longer, depending on how things go and how he feels. Cole is working his way back from nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

    • Throwing live BP
Hoeing is set to throw a live BP session at Single-A Jupiter this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hoeing reported tightness in his hamstring during a rehab appearance in later May. After a couple of weeks off, Hoeing is working his way back to pitching in games, with a live BP session being one of the final steps before resuming his rehab stint. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

    • Kyle Tucker (shin) absent from Tuesday’s lineup
Kyle Tucker (shin) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Cardinals.

Advice: The encouraging development here for fantasy managers is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and Tucker hasn’t been placed on the injured list yet following an early exit from Monday’s series opener after fouling a ball off his right shin. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón taking over in right field on Tuesday evening in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Begins throwing program
Simpson (elbow) has started throwing, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Simpson has been shut down since April, when he underwent surgery to repair the ulnar nerve in his left elbow. However, he's begun throwing at Single-A Jupiter. He's on track to return in late July or early August. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
