    • Report: Padres pursuing trade for Garrett Crochet
The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal report the Padres have shown strong interest in trade discussions for White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.

Advice: Here we go. No word on how close a potential deal may be, but it’s worth noting the two sides struck a deal a few months ago centered around White Sox ace Dylan Cease and appear to be circling another potential blockbuster. San Diego’s starting pitching depth took a serious hit last weekend with Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) landing on the injured list so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Padres general manager AJ Preller getting aggressive to fill the void. Crochet is in the midst of an unexpected breakout campaign with a stellar 3.49 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 93/15 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 innings (13 starts). The former top prospect is still only 24 years old and figures to command an astronomical asking price in trade talks. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
    • Still on track for London start
Suarez (hand) played catch without any apparent issues Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: He gave a thumbs up to reporters afterward and Phillies manager Rob Thomson said of Suarez that "it looks good so far." Suarez will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, and assuming that goes well he's expected to be cleared to start against the Mets this weekend in London. The lefty had to depart his last outing Saturday versus the Cardinals after being struck on the pitching hand by a comebacker. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

    • Cleared by MLB
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that it has cleared Ohtani, closed its investigation and considers him "a victim of fraud" at the hands of his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Mizuhara pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud charges Tuesday, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com, and MLB considers the mattered settled given the "thoroughness of the federal investigation." Ohtani has continued to produce as an MVP candidate despite the background noise and has 14 home runs, 14 steals and a .322/.392/.596 slash line through 58 games this season. • Called up for major-league debut
The Nationals recalled Herz from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Herz is set to make his major-league debut Tuesday as he makes a start against the Mets in place of Trevor Williams (elbow), who was placed on the injured list. The left-hander has posted a 3.75 ERA and 42:29 K:BB over 36 innings covering nine starts for Rochester this season. Herz boasts a 33.6 percent strikeout rate during his time in the minors, but he's also generated an elevated 15.3 percent walk rate. Rotowire.com Today, 9:13 am

    • Lands on IL with flexor strain
The Nationals placed Williams on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right flexor strain, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Williams had been slated to start Tuesday's game against the Mets but now will be sidelined for at least two weeks, and quite likely longer. The veteran right-hander has been a pleasant surprise for the Nationals this season, collecting a 2.22 ERA in 11 starts. DJ Herz was called up from Triple-A Rochester and will start Tuesday in Williams' stead. Rotowire.com Today, 9:10 am

    • Nationals recall DJ Herz from Triple-A Rochester
Nationals recalled LHP DJ Herz from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Herz is up with Trevor Williams (elbow) placed on the 15-day injured list, and he’s expected to make his MLB debut with a start against the Mets on Tuesday. The 23-year-old has thrown 36 innings at the Triple-A level in 2024 with a 3.75 ERA and 42/29 K/BB over his nine starts. Herz has swing-and-miss stuff, but his mediocre — at best — control makes him a risky streaming option going forward. Rotoworld Today, 9:10 am

    • Nationals place Williams on IL with flexor strain
Nationals placed RHP Trevor Williams on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain.

Advice: Williams will be out for at least two weeks with the injury, but there’s no timetable for his return yet as the injury occurred sometime after his start against Atlanta on Thursday. Washington has recalled DJ Herz to make the start against the Mets on Tuesday in Williams’ place. There should be further updates on the 32-year-old’s status in the coming days. • Set to work behind opener Tuesday
Rea is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Jared Koenig in Tuesday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

Advice: Koenig is expected to receive his second opener assignment in as many days after he needed just five pitches to retire the Phillies' top three hitters in Monday's 3-1 win. Look for Koenig to work no more than an inning or two Tuesday before turning the game over to Rea, who previously worked behind Koenig on May 25 in Boston. The arrangement ended up working out well for Rea's fantasy managers, as he picked up the win against the Red Sox that day while allowing two runs and striking out two batters over 5.2 innings. • Set to start Tuesday
Walston is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Giants at Chase Field.

Advice: After he was called up from Triple-A Reno on May 26, Walston made his first big-league start later that day against the Marlins, striking out four over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision. Arizona had previously confirmed Walston for a start against the Mets this past weekend, but he was ultimately pushed back in the pitching schedule after the Diamondbacks elected to call up Slade Cecconi from Reno to slot into the rotation following Zac Gallen's (hamstring) placement on the 15-day injured list. Until one of Gallen, Merrill Kelly (shoulder) or Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) returns from the IL, the Diamondbacks should have back-end rotation spots available for both Walston and Cecconi.
