    • Jakob Junis completes two frames Tuesday at AAA
Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) struck out three over two perfect innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Junis threw 21 pitches in his first rehab outing and will likely require a handful of additional appearances prior to rejoining Milwaukee’s starting rotation mix. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April due to a shoulder ailment and also suffered a head injury back in late April when he was hit by a ball during batting practice. • Report: Chris Martin nursing left shoulder issue
MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo reports Chris Martin is dealing with a lingering left shoulder issue.

Advice: Martin will avoid a trip to the injured list for the moment, but the Red Sox have reliever Zack Kelly with the club on their taxi squad just in case. The 38-year-old righty could wind up on the shelf at some point in the coming days, but for the moment he remains on Boston’s active roster. Rotoworld Today, 5:07 pm

    • Could start Wednesday vs. Phillies
Ashby joined the Brewers' taxi squad in Philadelphia and could be formally called up from Triple-A Nashville to start or work as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Ashby appears poised to slide into the rotation spot that belonged to Robert Gasser, who is awaiting a second opinion on his sore elbow and is expected to land on the 15-day injured list and miss out on at least a couple of starts. In his lone start for Milwaukee this season back on April 9 in Cincinnati, Ashby was blitzed for eight runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings. Upon returning to Nashville after that game, Ashby continued to struggle in his subsequent seven outings at Triple-A (9.54 ERA, 2.54 WHIP and 30:30 K:BB in 26.1 innings), but he's righted the ship over his past two starts. He delivered his best performance of the season in his most recent of the two starts last Friday versus Memphis, striking out five over seven scoreless frames while allowing two hits and three walks. With Gasser set to go on the shelf and the Brewers still waiting on Joe Ross (back), Jakob Junis (shoulder) and DL Hall (knee) to return from the IL, Ashby could be in store for multiple turns through the rotation if he fares reasonably well Wednesday. • Gerrit Cole strikes out five on Tuesday at AA
Gerrit Cole (elbow) struck out five over 3 1/3 scoreless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Somerset.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cole will require “at least a few” rehab outings before making his season debut, but he looked extremely sharp in this one. The 33-year-old reigning AL Cy Young Award winner was reportedly sitting in the mid-to-upper 90’s with his fastball and threw 45 pitches (34 strikes). He’ll presumably make another rehab start this weekend and could return to New York’s starting rotation at some point in late June or early July. Rotoworld Today, 4:29 pm

    • Facing hitters Wednesday
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Mahle (elbow) will face live hitters Wednesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bochy noted that Wednesday's workout will be the first of four live batting practice sessions that Mahle will complete as he works his way back from his May 22, 2023 Tommy John surgery. If Mahle incurs no setbacks during the live sessions, he'll likely then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment that could last close to the maximum 30 days. Mahle looks to be tracking around a return from the 60-day injured list at some point shortly after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 4:28 pm

    • O’s finalize minor league pact with Julio Teheran
Orioles signed RHP Julio Teheran to a minor league contract.

Advice: The deal is now official. Teheran fortifies Baltimore’s injury-depleted starting rotation with some additional depth, but doesn’t offer much appeal for fantasy managers. The 33-year-old journeyman right-hander is an option to take the ball for Thursday’s series finale against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 4:24 pm
    • On bench against lefty
Yastrzemski is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Yastrzemski will hit the bench Tuesday as lefty Blake Walston takes the mound for Arizona. Luis Matos will shift to center field while Heliot Ramos and Michael Conforto start in the corner outfield. Rotowire.com Today, 4:18 pm
    • Anthony Rendon (hamstring) nears baseball activities
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters Anthony Rendon (hamstring) could resume light baseball activities this week.

Advice: Rendon has been out since late April with a partially-torn left hamstring and remains without a definitive timetable to return. The 33-year-old veteran might be ready to return at some point in the second half of the season. Rotoworld Today, 4:16 pm

    • Phillies sticking with Taijuan Walker amid struggles
Phillies manager Rob Thomson confirmed Tuesday that Taijuan Walker will remain in the starting rotation.

Advice: Walker receives yet another vote of confidence from Thomson as he’ll keep his rotation spot over Spencer Turnbull, who has been a revelation this season in his Phillies debut and will continue operating in long relief. The 31-year-old righty, who is in the second year of a four-year, $72 million contract, will take the ball on Sunday against the Mets in London his next time out. Rotoworld Today, 4:12 pm
