    • Edwin Díaz to start rehab assignment this week
Edwin Díaz (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Advice: Díaz threw a bullpen session on Tuesday without any issues and the Mets are hoping to have one of their primary closing options back on June 11, when first eligible to return. The electrifying 30-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late May with a right shoulder impingement. He’s struggled this season, but remains arguably the best option for New York manager Carlos Mendoza moving forward over Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman and Reed Garrett. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago

    • Albert Suárez to start Wednesday vs. Blue Jays
Albert Suárez will start on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Suárez allowed one run over five innings last Friday against the division-rival Rays and will continue filling the void created by injuries to Kyle Bradish (elbow) and Dean Kremer (triceps). The 34-year-old is a tricky streaming option for fantasy managers given his lack of strikeout upside, but given Toronto’s persistent offensive struggles, he might be worthy of a gamble in deeper mixed leagues. • A’s activate Sean Newcomb on Tuesday for ’24 debut
Athletics activated LHP Sean Newcomb from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Newcomb will be available in relief out of Oakland’s bullpen for Tuesday’s series opener against the Mariners. The 30-year-old southpaw underwent a pair of knee surgeries during the offseason and is expected to return in a relief role for Oakland. He’s several years removed from being one of the better pitching prospects in baseball with the Braves and is merely extra organizational depth at this stage in his career. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats at this juncture. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Reinstated from IL
The Athletics reinstated Newcomb (knee) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Newcomb has been on the injured list all season due to irritation in his left knee, but he has now been given the green light to return to Oakland's bullpen after making four rehab appearances. The 30-year-old southpaw gave up two earned runs in six innings during his assignment but will likely be given low-leverage opportunities as he gets used to facing big-league hitters once again. Brady Basso was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Cora: Chris Martin likely heading to IL on Tuesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Chris Martin could go on the injured list shortly.

Advice: No word yet on the specifics of the issue, but it sounds like Martin is headed to the injured list with reliever Zack Kelly on his way to Fenway Park from cross-state Triple-A Worcester. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

    • Throwing live BP
Hoeing is set to throw a live BP session at Single-A Jupiter this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hoeing reported tightness in his hamstring during a rehab appearance in later May. After a couple of weeks off, Hoeing is working his way back to pitching in games, with a live BP session being one of the final steps before resuming his rehab stint. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

    • Begins throwing program
Simpson (elbow) has started throwing, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Simpson has been shut down since April, when he underwent surgery to repair the ulnar nerve in his left elbow. However, he's begun throwing at Single-A Jupiter. He's on track to return in late July or early August. Rotowire.com 60 minutes ago

    • Could be headed to IL
Martin could be placed on the injured list prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear exactly what injury Martin is dealing with. He last pitched on May 30, giving up three runs on a couple home runs. If a roster move is indeed made, Martin is expected to be replaced by Zack Kelly. Rotowire.com Today, 1:24 pm

    • Report: Padres pursuing trade for Garrett Crochet
The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal report the Padres have shown strong interest in trade discussions for White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.

Advice: Here we go. No word on how close a potential deal may be, but it’s worth noting the two sides struck a deal a few months ago centered around White Sox ace Dylan Cease and appear to be circling another potential blockbuster. San Diego’s starting pitching depth took a serious hit last weekend with Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) landing on the injured list so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Padres general manager AJ Preller getting aggressive to fill the void. Crochet is in the midst of an unexpected breakout campaign with a stellar 3.49 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 93/15 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 innings (13 starts). The former top prospect is still only 24 years old and figures to command an astronomical asking price in trade talks. Rotoworld Today, 1:13 pm
